Hector Couto

One of the heroes of the summer rolls up his sleeves for Sankeys Manchester

Interview Rob Chadwick

How was summer playing at places like Sankeys – was Ibiza has hot as ever?

Ibiza is always hot, really happy to play at Sankeys this summer, the ambience was amazing as always. I celebrated my birthday there playing this year with the legend Robert Hood and all my friends, such a great night we had…can´t wait for next season.

What are some of your favourite bits of studio gear and why?

I´m in love with my Midas Venice F24, the warmth of sound that Midas has is perfect for my music.

Tell us about your new track Old Roots – what inspired or influenced it?

Well Old Roots is inspired by my early years, when I growing up listening old skool sounds in my island “Tenerife”, this sound represent the artist who I am right now and I feel glad to show my roots in my music.

Are you someone who prefers older classic house and techno, going on the title of that, or just sometimes?

I love to play older classic in my sets, some of them have not passed in time, and its always a pleasure for me to see the people raving with some house gems.

How was your tour of Argentina – what’s it like as a space to play – do they like the same stuff as in Europe?

Argentina was superb, can’t describe the good vibes and positive vibrations I had there, such a beautiful country and people. About the music, they really follow the same stuff as Europe and for me I don’t feel no difference while I’m playing, so I’m really happy to back this January again for more.

What’s your view on Manchester, its a city with a rich musical heritage – you ever been a follower of the scenes there, be it baggy, indie house, acid or techno or whatever?

I’ve been playing in Manchester for so long and the city is very rich about the musical culture, I always enjoy my time there and without going into musical styles for me the most important thing is the clubbing scene the city had, for any genre or type of people, Manchester is music mad.

How do you like playing in sweaty clubs vs outdoor festivals – does it make you play darker maybe?

Personally I really like both, but clubs have a personal feel compared to festivals.  Sometimes I feel that I can be darker in clubs but also at festivals I can play more with the crowd making  a link between them and me.

What should people expect from you at Sankeys when you play soon?

As always I’m going very excited to Manchester, the crowd is always amazing and this time my set is prepared for them. So get ready for good vibes and good house music guys

Have you got anything else coming up that you are excited about?

Right now I’m preparing a very special EP on my label Roush that will be released in vinyl and digital format with a special remixer, who joins our Roush Family for the first time, so stay tuned . . .
