Hologram Hookers

The boys return to Afro Acid with a monster EP

Hologram Hookers return to Afro Acid with a range of retro styled acid, Detroit techno and tech electro house grooves on their current musical adventure the ‘Arise EP’. The title track ‘Arise’ Bang The Acid mix does just that with its full 303 work out, ‘French Kiss’ inspired breakdown and perfect for those Peak time Acid moments. The second track, ‘Jam All Frequencies’ Stomp The Dancefloor Mix is an Electro House groover that’s a perfect weapon to get the crowd moving. Rounding things off is the ‘Jack The Discotheque’ Rise of the Machines Mix,  a bouncy corker that takes the classic 808 sounds we all know and love in new Electro House directions…

Interview : Nicky Trax

A huge welcome to DMCWORLD! So let’s rewind, how did you start making music in the first place?

“Hi Nicky! Well I had a synthesizer with a built in sequencer that could record beats over pads and bass lines. I added drum machines and bleepy boxes to try and make the type of music I was influenced by.”

What was your first break?

“The first Hologram Hookers ‘Frequency Fetish EP’ was signed by Afro Acid, and the guys there are fantastic and supported what I was doing.”

How would you describe your sound to someone who has no idea who or what you are?

“Distorted basslines and 909’s.”

What is coming up next studio wise?

“Hologram Hookers have a some releases due out over the coming months. Starting with 2 new EPs followed by some remixes. The first ‘Arise EP’ is out on Afro Acid Traxx on Beatport this week. I also have a couple of side projects and aliases I record under, so that keeps me busy.”

How did you get signed to DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid label?

“
I was doing a mix for DJ MTraxxx on his Pirate Revival radio station. He works in A+R for Afro Acid so I passed on some tracks I had done. DJ Pierre and Phuture are heroes to dance music in general, and there is music being made today because of their sound. True Pioneers…”

How did this magical music journey begin for you?

“I think I decided to buy a synthesizer after hearing Carl Craig’s ‘Landcruising’ album so since about ’96/97. My proudest moment was when an angry tweet said ‘I’m lookin for a ho and I find this shit music!”

Is there any one track that you’re particularly proud of and also…are you psyched up about any new artists or releases coming up?

“I’m proud to have used a Queen sample on a track without it being noticed or recognisable. I’ve just watched a video about a band called 65DaysOfStatic who are procedurally generating music for an infinite universe within a game.  It’s fascinating, controlled randomness.”

So what does the future hold for you?

“There is a new Roland Aira synth coming out soon which sounds great.  Roland’s recent Aira series are excellent.  It has the ‘101+303+808= form a band ‘  feel about it…and brings back the production techniques and opportunities to play live without a laptop to a whole new generation.”
