Ibizal 2014 – Jason Bye

We Love resident and head of all things Terry’s All Gold

Interview by Dan Prince

Jason welcome back to DMCWORLD dude. Well the biggest news of your Ibiza summer is the arrival of your baby Ramona Eliza. Congratulations to you and Katie!! How have the first three months been?

“Quite amazing really, she was born on the morning of the ‘we-love…’ Space Opening Party, so I was straight from the hospital to the club then back to the hospital. Had a wicked set too playing to a packed out Discotecca. Was a really special day.”

You have enjoyed a superb summer down at Space with your Stripped Sunday sessions. What have been some of the highlights down there?

“Every time has been great really, had wicked back2back with Jem Haynes last week and playing alongside my bra Andy Baxter early in the season was total madness. Ian Blevins dared to play alongside myself and almost toppled me, haha. Great laugh and wicked terrys.”

Love the photo of you and Skrillex where you were explaining to him what a terry was. Did he get it?

Yes, he got it too. Nice fella, we had a right crack, I don’t think he understood most of what I said but he’s bang on the terrys.”

Loved your deadmau5 twitter war last month…what was all that about?!?!

“Haha, was just winding him up. He gives it the biggun all the time acting like he’s the saviour of house music or something. He had a go at Paris Hilton but in a way like Amnesia is HIS club. Well it ain’t mate. I told him ‘those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones’…he then went on about rocket launchers or something. Needs to lay off the call of duty I think.”

Café Mambo, if it was possible, stepped up another gear this summer. If anyone was wondering where the superstar DJs hang out these days, it’s here. You have played with the best this season…who have you had the most fun with behind the ones and twos…?

“So many DJs pass through Mambo and I always end up having a good laugh with Tongy and Duke Dumont is a sound geeza too. Felix Housecat, Junior Sanchez and Andy Cato are always up for it also.”

I asked you at the start of the summer what your No. 1 tune selection was for the sun dipping into the sea moment at Mambo. You chose Dire Straits ‘Private Investigations’…what have you played this summer?

“I’ve been playing a track from the movie ‘Road to Perdition’ –don’t know what it’s called cos I re-labeled it a while back when mastering it for playing at Mambo. Anyone who has seen the movie will know the score.”

Ibiza made the news for all of the wrong reasons in July when Steve Angello, Paul Oakenfold and Afrojack were interviewed on Radio 1 claiming that Ibiza had become too expensive, too VIP and had lost it’s mystique. Most of us who live on the island have different opinions on this, what’s yours…?

“I don’t go to VIP events, don’t interest me. No real feeling, just poncing about. Maybe Afrojack should just stick to Vegas where he belongs and stop rinsing Ibiza.”

Paris Hilton earning $200,000 a pop at Amnesia. Thoughts…

“Why not? She would be mad to turn it down. Who wouldn’t? It’s the punters fault for making these reality superstars in the first place.”

Ibiza’s most unsung hero…

“Jonny Flipflop.”

The best DJ set of the summer you witnessed…

“Detroit Swindle.”

Away from the clubs, where have been some of the coolest, craziest parties you have spun a few Terry’s at?

“The ‘Float Your Boat’ sunset cruise for Coxy and ‘we-love…’ have been really good.”

And finally – what is coming out next from you studio wise?

“Watch out over the next month for…4 EP’s terrys all gold – gonna be massive, say no more guvna…”
