Interview by Dan Prince

Mr James, welcome back to DMCWORLD…what part of the world are you rocking today?

“Back in London town at the moment which is nice!!”

A stunning year of releases culminated in the release and then huge anthem for ‘Show Me All Your Love’ which sat at the top of the Australian Aria dance chart for 3 weeks! Has the success taken you by surprise at all…or did you know this was the one that was gonna blow up?

“Thanks! I guess you never really know how its going to be perceived but I always thought it had a great vibe so I’m happy its really working!!”

You love basketball, we love basketball. So, the greatest player ever : Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or Magic Johnson? And why…

“Damn good question! You really can’t fault Michael Jordan. Jordan is just Jordan, he is one of the greatest sportsman to ever live! Definately my favourite player growing up along with Shawn Kemp and Latrell Sprewell. Kobe is great too but sometimes doesn’t deliver when he really needs too. Ive always had a soft spot for Magic Johnson, so much finesse.  And Wilt Chamberlain is still a legend he holds so many NBA records that still haven’t been broken.”

A nice post on your Facebook page a few weeks ago reflecting on what an amazing summer you have had in Ibiza this year. “There were so many highlights” you admitted, well, give us some!

“There was a lot of wicked moments. But I had an amazing time playing at Guetta’s closing party’s at Ushuaia. The energy was awesome especially when I don’t play as banging I play a lot more funky house stuff than David and the other guys on the line-up.”

What are the big 5 tunes in your box this weekend…

Kaz James – Show Me All Your Love

Oliver $ & Jimi Jules – Pushing On – Jesse Rose ‘Live From The Villa’ Remix

Basement Jaxx – Never Say Never – Mark Knight Remix

Secondcity – I Wanna Feel

Oliver Heldens – Gecko – Kaz James Remix

Your Grind Espresso and cocktail bars welcomed a new location to your portfolio this month when Holborn Grind opened it’s doors. So just to see how much you keep in check with your ‘other’ business, which DJ turned film star autographed your Shoreditch celebrity wall this week?

“Hahaha!! Thanks for checking up on me…It was my homie Idris Elba, he was using my recording studio at The Shoreditch Grind. Don’t worry I’m all over it!!”

Your mother is Italian, your father is Greek and you grew up in Australia. What is your earliest memory of music in your house growing up, must have been chaos.

“Yeah it was an extremely crazy up bringing to be honest!! But I would say my first proper memories were with my auntie who also lived with us she was younger than my mother and was always heading out to the disco clubs. She would play me loads of tunes and I would dance around the house with her. We would listen to stuff like Patrick Hernandez – ‘Born To Be Alive’ and Technotronic ‘Pump Up The Jam’.  I must have been around 4 years old.”

The last time you played vinyl in a club…

“Properly not for years but I did play a few records at my friends bar a few weeks ago in Sydney…I was getting so jealous watching the DJ spin vinyl I just had to jump with him. It’s such a great buzz I can’t explain it!! As a DJ you haven’t really experienced DJing properly if you haven’t ever played on vinyl.”

You have a day off in Australia. Surfing on Snapper Rocks at Coolangatta or getting pissed and sunbathing around Bunker Bay and it’s wineries in Perth?

“I’m a shit surfer so definitely getting pissed at Bunker Bay in Perth would be my choice!”

The next studio release from Kaz James…

“I have a lot in the pipeline but at the moment we are just focusing on ‘Show Me All Your Love’.”

You’ve spent a lot of time with the Nervo girls recently…tell us something we don’t know about them…

“Well I’ve known them since I was 14 so I could really go to town on them but they would kill me. I will say this…I like to party…but let’s just say these two “can fucking PARTY!”

The last GREAT album you bought?

“Defected Presents House Masters – Derrick Carter.”

It’s that time of year again when Australia go fucking nuts for Stereosonic. What has been your favourite moment at one of these massive festivals in years gone by?

“Playing the MainStage in Sydney in front of 70,000 people is just an incredible experience!!”

Your DJ of 2014?

“Kolsch.”

And finally…where can we catch you on New Years Eve and what could be the record you’ll be spinning…

“I’ll be in Australia New Years, I’m holding my own party on the 1st. I’m taking my SHOW ME brand onto the beach in Melbourne which I’m super excited about. It was the name of my night in Mykonos, so it’s really cool that it has a demand in other places around the world. If your around make sure you check it out!”
