Kerri Chandler

One of house music’s most respected and long-standing innovators unleashes his Kaoz Theory

Interview by Dan Prince

Kerri a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…where on planet earth are you today?

Right now Dan I’m in Barcelona for Sonar

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed?

Actually I was going over some new demos for the label…

Well sir, you have done it again. Ensured hands in the air chaos thanks to your music, this time round it’s ‘Kaoz Theory’ – the first compilation from your new label. Tell us about your early career nickname that helped create the label’s name…

It was all about the “kaoz” in my life, in the studio, on the road and a time in late June when something unusual  would happen in my life. Using the name is kind of how I made sense of it all

You must have had so much fun creating this album, a load of exclusive music from some of your friends and peers all in there. What tracks were you especially pleased to include…?

It’s been great and lots of fun, I’m so grateful to each producer for contributing their time and music so there isn’t one. It’s great to be able to support music from old friends and new

What are the label plans for the summer…

I have lots of plans in the works- including planning parties around some of the new Kaoz Theory releases

Dude, the month of May was mental for you. Give us a highlight from some of these babies…

The last ever Southport Weekender, UK…

I saw at lot of my friends there – David, Chez, Dennis and too many to name. It was a very heartfelt time for us all

The Opening of DC10, Ibiza…

It’s always a new experience but a positive one when I return to DC10. This time was a big surprise to me to play back to back with Nathi (Black Coffee)

Watergate, Berlin…

It felt like returning to my second home. It’s one of the most comfortable environments I’ve played in. There never seems to be enough time in a night when I’m there. I can just play for hours and get lost in the energy of the place. My last trip Sebo K. was there and he started the night off. He was the person who first invited me there years ago and so it was like coming full circle for me

Movement, Detroit…

The weather was perfect and everyone was excited and having a great time. I played the Red Bull / Disclosure stage there and got to meet up with a lot of friends – some I haven’t seen in years. It was like one big reunion. I was very disappointed that I didn’t have a chance to see and hear Disclosure, since I had to leave to catch a flight

An interesting thing Seth Troxler said at IMS Engage a few weeks back…“I’m seeing people float further and further away from the idea and the culture that we tried to create, and it really pisses me off.” What are your thoughts on that…?

There is no real way to answer this question. Everyone has the right to their opinion. There are lots of people who come to the parties for different reasons. I just hope that most of them are for the same reasons that we have – the love of the music and the culture and keeping what we do alive

The last great studio toy you bought…

Moog Voyager

Where can we catch you in Ibiza this year?

I’m at DC10 – and at Space with Carl Cox and Yousef

A young, up and coming producer to watch out for…

There are way too many to mention but I have signed several new people to Kaoz Theory – Seb Zito, Lola Purple and Voyeur to name a few along with several other surprises, who all have tracks on the Compilation. I also put up previews and downloads on my Facebook page – Kerri Chandler (Official). Feel free to join in…
