Krankbrother

The brothers in rhythm rocking London and Bristol with a new label set to launch

Interview : Dan Prince

Danny, Kieran – welcome to DMCWORLD. Where in the wortld are you right now?

“Shoreditch. Hiding away from the cold in our restaurant Beagle.”

The first piece of music you heard today?

“I listened to Art Pepper Live At Village Vanguard whilst I was having my breakfast. Perfect morning music.”

February 20th  sees you putting on the ritz at one of the best venues in the UK, Motion in Bristol where you will be joined by Gerd Janson, Levon Vincent, Margaret Dygas and Move D. Is Bristol the coolest city in the UK right now?

“I don’t think we know all the UK’s cities well enough to comment. We’ve been going to Bristol for years though and it always has a great energy and vibrant music scene. So much great music has come from Bristol in the last 15 years.”

Throw a couple of highlights at us from New Years Eve at Village Underground a few weeks back…

“Having Mr G headline was massive! He’s one of the legends of the scene and a huge inspriration for us so it was special to finally meet him.”

You’ll be returning to London town the night after Motion for another mammoth allnighter with Roman Flugel and Optimo joining the line up at Fire for the annual Phonica Records Special. Who are you really looking forward to seeing spin on this huge night out?

“All of them. Sadly we can’t be in all three rooms at once. so I guess we’ll try to catch Levon tear up the main room.”

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. You started making a name for yourselves back in 2009n when you kick started some parties at London’s Corsica Studios. Since then you have put on parties at some outrageous venues…where have been some of your favourite?

“There have been so many great moments but our street parties in Shoreditch have to have been our favourite events to have been involved in.

We loved your recent Zipp EP which had the likes of Heidi, Eats Everything and Soul Clap all over it. What is coming out next from you guys…?

“We launch our label in March and the first EP will be by us. It’s a three track EP with a distinct Italo-Acid sound. Keep an ear out for it!”

The 5 biggest tunes in your box this weekend…

Caucasian Boy – Northern Lights (Prime Cutz Mix)

…lovely acid line

Project – Love Rescue

…disco at it’s best – cuts into techno in such a good way

Roy Davis Jr – All I Do

…house music at it’s sexiest

Terrence Parker – Something Here

…just listen to it – BIG

Krankbrother – Unreserved

…lead track on our next EP – it’s a serious Italo jam

A celebrity you would not want to get stuck in a lift with

“Bieber – it could end in GBH.”

When was the last time you pressed rewind and listened to a track over again because it was so damned good?

“In Tokyo last week when a barman played us Candy by Lee Morgan. We played the whole record through twice.”

Your best experience ever in Ibiza?

“So many to choose from – but maybe our first yacht party a few years back. 150 people, an amazing yacht and Magda and Audiofly playing.”

Tell us 3 bucket list adventures you wanna do before you die?

“Drive a motorbike across Africa.  Sail the seas. Move somewhere remote enough than I can finally read the ever growing list of books that I want to read before I die without distraction!”

A tune nestling in your set that just won’t go away from last year?

“Rocket – People (Jenos Stormy Weather Mix) – Pure acid gold!”

The figure from history whom you’d most like to have a pint with?

“Oscar Wilde.

The person who has influenced you the most in life?

“One another probably!”

A producer you would most like to collaborate with?

“Andrew Weatherall or Four Tet.”

The temptation you could resist?

“Why resist?”

An album in your collection we’d be surprise to find?

“Enya.”

What would you say are each other’s finest qualities as producers?

“Patience. And knowledge of music. Without either of those things it’s hard to write anything fresh.”

And finally…when was the last time you had a massive argument over music?

“The last time we were in the studio – although it wasn’t massive but it’s healthy to disagree. When we work alone it’s not as effective or fun.”
