The big man does it again. Hit That dancefloor everybody around the world

Interview by Dan Prince

Rich a massive welcome back to DMCWORLD. Where in the world are you right now?

“Hey Dan, nice to hear from you! I’m currently in Vancouver, though I’m heading off to LA tomorrow to shoot our new music video…”

Cool. What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after clambering out of bed?

“Sadly enough, it was the intro music to Zelda, I had a quick game this morning before work!

How was Union Sound in Alberta at the weekend…did you and Melbourne’s Will Sparks keep it tidy?

“Yeh it was great, Will is an absolute legend and threw down hard!”

So a fabulous way to start the new year with another superb piece of production. This time around it’s down to your ‘Hit That’ tune featuring hip hop legend Trinidad Jame$ swinging our way on Doorn Records…a label that has started 2015 as they mean to go on! Please talk us through the sound and history of this powerful club banger…

“It started out as a follow up to the track ‘Flash’ that I did with Hot Mouth last year…and then we figured it sounded a bit TOO much like ‘Flash’. After ‘BONK!’ did so well I figured I’d take a swing at another bounce track and so changed the drop, et voila!”

The world became aware of Trinidad bred, hip hop story teller and larger than life ‘Gold Gang’ godfather Trinidad Jame$ thanks to his 2012 smash ‘All Gold Everything’. Dim Mak then brought us ‘Hustle Hard’…how did you two hook up?

“I work closely with an amazing songwriter in LA called AFSHeeN, I’ve done a couple of remixes with him before and we actually have a new collab coming out soon. He does a ton of work for some really big name vocalists, and just happened to be listening to my track when Trinidad Jame$ walked in. He nailed the vocal in one take and the track was done!”

What are the big 5 tunes in your box this weekend…

John Dahlback & Albin Myers – Breaking Your Locks

I tend to like very few “future house” tracks, but this track is the nuts, even if the breakdown doesn’t fit too well.

Merk & Kremont vs Volt and State – Black and White

The quality of production is just insane in this, I really really wish I had come up with that melody too.

Henry Fong – Le Disco

Big fun track, always kills the floor, this is a perfect example of fun electro.

Wolfgang Gartner – Unholy (Cobra Effect Remix)

My lips are sealed as to who Cobra Effect are, but they are rapidly making a big name for themselves, this take on Wolfy’s latest is killer.

Felguk – Showtime

This track didn’t do as well as their one with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike even though its way better, really innovative and amazing production.

Gotta ask, how did the shout out asking for someone to buy you a Tesla car go? Any takers?

“Yeh was great, I’ve got three new Tesla’s now, amazing how generous people are! (Sadly no).”

A celebrity you would not want to get stuck in a lift with?

“After all that business at the Grammy’s, I’m not sure I could deal with Kanye for very long.”

When was the last time you pressed rewind and listened to a track over again because it was so damned good?

“Abel Ramos & Felix Leiter – ‘Halo’: I listened to this on a random promo with no expectations and was blown away, this is exactly the kind of music I love.”

Tell us 3 bucket list adventures you wanna do in your lifetime?

“I’m a big Top Gear fan and I’ve always liked the idea of doing one of those monster road trips. So if I can somehow incorporate that with visiting Machu Picchu and also a trip to India, that would be cool!

A tune nestling in your set that just won’t go away from last year?

“‘Flash’ of course, rumor has it we’ve got a vocal version on the way!

3 things you want to achieve musically in 2015…

“A successful music video, a crossover track and something completely different.

An up n’ coming producer we should be watching out for this year?

“Conro has been sending me some amazing tracks recently, he has some new ones coming out on Dyro’s label pretty soon, definitely worth keeping an eye on!

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say these days, labels always want me to keep things quiet until they announce it which is super annoying. I’ve probably already told you too much in this interview so I’m not going to spill any more beans. There’s a lot of stuff coming tho!”
