Luca Guerrieri

The Italian stallion spreading peace and Harmony this Christmas

Interview by Dan Prince

Luca welcome to DMCWORLD young man, where in the world are you right now?

“Hi Dan, I’m just chilling at the hotel in Brescia before my DJ set tonight.”

Well yet again you have the best dancefloors on the planet going crazy thanks to your music. This time round it’s the stunning ‘Harmony’ track that has got everyone loving you! Please tell us about the history and sound of the track…

“The idea of the track was born on my laptop as I relaxed on the sofa at home with my wife and our baby. Then it was finalized in the studio, but I think it was just the complete serenity with which it was made was the main inspiration of ‘Harmony’.”

Can you remember the first time you road tested the track?

“Yes, I was playing at Setai Club in Bergamo. The beats dropped, then exploded…a few seconds later and the dancefloor erupted…then people rushed to the DJ booth to tell me it was a bomb! A good day starts in the morning!”

Some of the world’s finest DJs have give ‘Harmony’ the big thumbs up, people like Axwell, Roger Sanchez and Tiesto have all been smashing the rune wherever they go. Do names of support like this have an impression on you or is it simply a case of it’s the people on the dancefloor that count?

“Having the support of DJs of that caliber is a great pleasure for me. But the thing that is most important is to see the audience really enjoying my work!”

What are the big 5 tunes for you this weekend?

The Avener – Fade Out Lines (Cubicolor Remix)

Gorgon City feat. Jennifer Hudson – Go All Night

Dany Cohiba – The King Of Sky

Steve Angello – Wasted Love (feat. Dougy) (Dirty Vegas Remix)

NEW_ID – Aero Games

Loving that photo of you and Sarah Favouritizm on Facebook a few weeks back. This girl can party right?!

“Sarah is real kind person, sunny smiling and full of energy! Happy to know her!”

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. What is your earliest memory of music?

“The first record I bought was Duran Duran ‘The Reflex’. The first mix was Tina Turner – Goldeneye (David Morales Remix).”

When did you first encounter dance music and who were the artists / producers that first got you interested?

“For sure MAW, David Morales and Mousse T were the first dance artists to stimulate my senses. If I listen to their work today, I realise how good they were already back then, without considering the fact that producing discs in the 90’s was much more challenging than it is today!”

Was music always going to be the career for you or was there another journey you could have taken?

“Yes, I always dreamed of this and I would say one thing to all those who would like to try…will is power! Unfortunately I often hear people complain and point the finger at others giving sins of their failures…in my life I have used every single particle of energy in my body to try to reach my goal. I don’t know if I can say that I’ve made it, but surely I have it all set!”

Your worst ever job?

“Accounting.”

Your first break into the music industry?

“My first DJ residency was for one of the most important Italian clubs in 2000, Tartana in my home town Follonica with whom I collaborate with even now after many years. My first record ‘Last Chance’ was released in 2007 on Shibusa Records and I still listen with pleasure. On an international level, certainly the future release of  ‘Harmony’ which has already opened new horizons for me, as well as enabling me join the roster of my favorite label, d:vision, along with artists that I respect including Federico Scavo, The Cube Guys, Francesco Rossi and Dirty Vegas.”

Not many people know this, but Luca Guerrieri is really good at…

“Cooking.”

A favourite album of yours that is not dance music….

“Jamiroquai – Travelling Without Moving.”

Tell us about your studio set up…

“My studio is very simple, I believe the ideas win over the technology. After spend times to use analog instruments, now I use a Mac with CUBASE (75%) e LOGIC (25%), UAD 2, Trilian, NI Komplete, Sylenth, Nexus e ARP2600… And some little secret that I can not reveal! LOL…”

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise

“Many things are in the pipeline including a couple of remixes before the new year. I’m really excited about the buzz around ‘Harmony’ and obviously I’m working on the follow up.”
