Italy in da house! Stunning new ‘Hydrogen’ track blowing up on Doorn

Interview by Dan Prince

Well what a year you guys are having, success after success! New tune you created with Uforik…‘Hydrogen’…please talk us through the sound and history of the track…

“Thank you for your kind words Dan! The story of this track is very simple. One day, a young producer called ‘Uforik’ reached out to us and sent a rough melody through our Facebook Fan Page and we definitely loved it. And so…the collab was born.”

The track received early suppport from the likes of Hardwell, W&W and David Guetta. Whose names always fill with you pride when you see them ticking your box?

“It’s such an honor to get support from artists like them. They are such an inspiration and help us to get better and better. Steve Angello directly replied to us about “Hunter” and we can say it was an incredible feeling.”

It’s suffice to say the success of ‘Hunter’ took you by surprise, 60,000 plays in one day back in May, Mr Angello spinning it at Size in the Park, Nicky Romero and co. all over it. Did you know on completion you were sitting on a timebomb?

“We always thought that hunter would work; it’s a club track, and these kind of tracks are much more likely to play in the clubs or festivals; but when we got all this support from Steve Angello to Nicky Romero, we were very impressed and proud.”

What are the big 5 records in your box this weekend…?

Lush & Simon, Uforik – Hydrogen

Greg Cerrone & Arias – Foot Steps

Gregori Klosman, Albin Myers, Tristan Garner – Pressure

Porter robinson – Flicker

Michael Calfan – Prelude

How does living in different parts of Italy affect your work?

“Most of the people don’t know that we live in two different parts of Italy, Lush lives in Como (in the north of Italy, really close to Milan) and Simon lives in Catania (South Italy, Sicily), so we are not always together for making music.”

It’s that time again, the mighty ADE!! What are your plans this time around?

“Yes, finally! We can’t wait to go there! We’ll play at Protocol Reboot party at Melkweg on October 15, we have also a lot of meetings with artists and label managers.”

ADE – one massive party or a chance to do business?

“We can do both! It’s a great opportunity to meet artists and label managers but mostly to party!”

To mark you stoking up 100,000 likes on your Facebook page you asked your fans to suggest some collabs they wanted to see you involved with. Who were some of the names they came back with?

“It’s much too soon to announce something now, but a lot of fans suggest us to collab with artists like Merk & Kremont, Vicetone, Nicky Romero, Paris & Simo and many more. So if we want to make fans happy, we must collaborate with all these suggested artists!!”

Tell us about your studio set up…

“As mentioned before, we live in two different places, so we have two studios set up:

At Lush’s studio we use to work with: KRK vxt6 (monitor speakers), Macbook pro, and a lot of imagination.

At Simon’s studio we use to work with: Adam a8x, M- audio bx8a (monitor speakers), Mac Pro, an old keyboard and also here, a lot of imagination. We are thinking to improve our studios soon and to buy some analog tools like compressors or synths.”

Who excels in what department when making a production?

“Lush is more focused on the melodic and arrangement department and Simon on the technical one.”

You also posted on your Facebook the news that you had just completed a new remix, come on then, what’s all that about then?

“Our remix of “Tritonal – Anchor” will be released later this year.”

The top 3 gigs of 2014…

“The first one was the Nameless Festival which is an event close to Lake Como. The second one was in Spain in San Sebastian which was just incredible. The third one was with our good friend Tom Swoon in Warsaw over in Poland.”

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. You have taken the world of EDM in no time at all. When did you first meet and how did the idea of a production duo formulate?

“So the first time we met was 4 years ago and we’re not solitary guys, we wanted to work together thanks to our friendship…and at least we can support each other in the ‘’darker’’ moments and in the no-inspirational moments too.”

Early producer influences?

“Artists like Alesso, Mat Zo and Porter Robinson are our greatest sources of inspiration.”

What is the record that…

…reminds you of your childhood?

Lush: “Tiesto – Adagio For Strings.”

Simon: “Iron Maiden – 2 Minutes To Midnight.”

…you wish you would have made?

Both: “Save the World by Swedish House Mafia and Porter Robinson’s new album, which is just amazing.”

…always gets you dancing?

“We don’t like to dance.”

…reminds you of being broken hearted?

Lush: “I never had my heart broken haha!”

Simon: “I’m not as lucky as Lush hehehe. Blink 182 – I Miss You.”

You have had a cracking of a year, but we all know the next 12 months is the important one. What do you want to achieve over the next year?

“We always want to get people who follow us satisfied with our music, this is the main achievement for us, but also hope to reach achievements like: play at the biggest festivals like Tomorrowland or EDC and to collaborate with some good artists who can improve our producer skills.”

And finally…what are the next studio plans for you two…

“We have a lot of new music coming out after ‘Hydrogen’, but we don’t want to spoil the surprise now, all will be revealed very shortly.”
