Big #9414 Tour marking the launch of new label and album

Grammy nominated Martin Buttrich has put his sonic fingerprints on many of the biggest tracks from the past dance decade releasing tunes on such influential labels as Planet E, Cocoon, Poker Flat and of course Desolat. Celebrating 20 years of releasing original music, Buttrich now presents his #9414 Tour marking the launch of a new label and new album hitting the world’s finest cities with a bunch of his superstar producer friends. Dan Prince checks in…

Martin welcome back to DMC WORLD…where on Planet Earth are you today?

“Thank you Dan! I am in Ibiza right now taking a few days off before I jump back into madness of my #9414 tour.”

The tour celebrates 20 years of releasing original music and combines three months of mouthwatering dates all over the world featuring the likes of Carl Craig, Josh Wink, Loco Dice and Pete Tong. WOW! When did the idea of this incredible tour first start to formulate in your mind and who/where are you most looking forward to spinning with/at…?

“The idea started when I was browsing through my library to find some old tracks of mine. I realized I released my first record almost 20 years ago on a label in Germany called Adam & Eve. I simply thought that’s a good reason to celebrate and invite some from friends to join me on the ride. I am looking forward to every single one of them. The gig with The Martinez Brothers in Milan and the show with Mathew Jonson were already mind blowing. I can’t wait for the next shows.”

How was the Mint Festival in Leeds last week? It’s always a cracking event…

“It was good. Leeds has always been a place where I have a fun playing.”

What has been your record of the summer?

“I have no specific record I would point out but, there is this record from Pig & Dan that I just can’t stop playing called ‘Sandstorm’.”

The tour is also a celebration of your new label Rhythm Assault…what are the plans for this new imprint?

“I will launch my album on Rhythm Assault. The label will be a permanent playground. I want to use it as a platform to create and showcase new projects. I don’t want any boundaries but a home I can consistently go to in order to release my music and other experiments.”

Many of the artists joining you on tour will also feature on the collaboration album due at the start of 2015. What can you tell us about it…?

“Not much yet as the album is not finished and still in progress and a lot of things can change last minute but I’m very proud to have some of the finest artists of our scene joining me on this album.”

Are there any names missing from the tour…any producers you would have loved to be on the bill?

“The tour is limited to 20 shows and there is only a certain amount of talent you can invite.  Unfortunately it was not possible to find a matching date with some artists as everyone has a schedule filled up to the top but I am super happy with all the fantastic ones that are on board.”

Tonight in Ibiza Cocoon closes it’s doors at Amnesia for another summer. We were on the dancefloor two weeks ago when you rocked the shit out of it with Eats Everything, Catz’N Dogz and Ricardo Villalobos. How did you enjoy that little soiree?

“I had a lot of fun. It’s been a while since I played the Amnesia terrace. It’s still magical. All the artists played great sets especially Luciano who I haven’t heard for quite some time playing.”

The white isle has come in for some stick this year, many are saying the island has become too VIP and it has lost some of it’s mystique. Thoughts on that?

“I have been coming to the island since 2001. VIPs have always been a part of the island. I can’t see a change in that sense but it feels like the amount of parties have tripled in the past 10 years which results sometimes in lack of people and quality. The island itself is still mystical and always will be but this has nothing to do with the clubbing.”

We were also down the front at Sankeys at the end of August for your Flying Circus set. Sankeys has been hailed by many as THE club of 2014…would you agree?

“I had good times at Sankeys. I am not sure if it’s THE club of 2014 but it is quite unique for the island as this is the only place that has the feeling of a club that you rather would find in Manchester, Liverpool or Milan.”

Highlight of Loco Dice’s birthday at Space?

“Well, his whole birthday really…and the set of Carl Cox on the Sunset terrace.”

What is the record that…

…reminds you of your childhood?

“The Carpenters. My mom listened to their music all day long.”

…always get you dancing?

“Carl Craig – Sandstorm.”

…you wish you would have made?

“Choice – Acid Eiffel.”

Best and worst thing about living in Barcelona?

“Weather, food and friends are just a few of the things that makes it easy to live there. Siesta is one of the downers of this place, especially if your hungry and you want to eat out.”

A young and up n’coming producer we should be looking out for next year?

“Maher Daniel is doing very good stuff. I am sure we will hear a lot of good music coming from this man next year.”

An album we would be surprised to find in your collection?

“Gorecki – Symphony No. 3 “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”. Quite a heavy piece of music though.”

And finally, what has been your best DJ gig of 2014 and why?

“2014 is not over yet. But there were already some great shows. The Origens show with Luciano at Amnesia and the show at Fabrique in Milan with the Martinez Brothers for my 9414 tour definitely left a good memory.”
