The Remixtape King brings us a summer booty

Interview by Dan Prince

Dude welcome to DMCWORLD!! And congratulations on your PAFF PAFF PASS Remixtape, so much love for you! 24 remixes in one place, 11 of them never released before. Tell us about the whole project

Hey! First of all, thanks for having me! Like you said before, the whole project is 24 remixes. It was supposed to be 25, because the whole remixtape was out on my 25th birthday, but we had to remove one of them right before the release. Every remix is very different. You can find almost every genre that fascinates me there. Cloud Rap, Deep House, Electro House, Bigroom House, Trap and much more.

Have any of the stars involved shown any approval or thumbs up?

Obviously Major Lazer, Splurt, Both and Anes, because they asked me to those do remixes for them first and then let me put them on the mixtape. I know Bibi Bourelly likes my remix, DVBBS played my Raveology remix way before the release. I had to remove the rest of them from SoundCloud, because I was getting a lot of copyright infringement reports. You can still find them all @ paffpaffpass.com though!

You hail from Wroclaw, the largest city in Western Poland. What is the dance scene like there?

The dance scene here is getting pretty solid actually. We’ve got lots of talented producers and DJs out here. One of them is Pham, who’s getting quite a lot of buzz all over the internet lately. Check him out!

How old were you when you started getting interested in electronic music and how did you gain access to it?

I was about 9 or 10, it all started thanks to my cousins, who used to listen to lots of electronic music. The first dance record I bought on my own was probably Gigi D’Agostino’s “L’Amour Toujours” or Eiffel 65’s “Europop”, so… yeah. I was a huge fan of Scooter and Bomfunk MC’s, actually I still am. Then I started watching German MTV and Viva, I was addicted to those channels haha! They played lots of eurodance and trance music back then.

When did the idea of a career in music first start to form in your head and what did your family think about your cunning plan?

I wanted to be a “DJ” since I was 10, but it got more serious when I released my first official single back in 2007. My parents were and still are super supportive, always helping me with achieving my goals. I’m very thankful for that.

Your first steps into the industry?

It was all about MySpace back then! You could message your favorite DJ and get a personal reply directly from him, not his managers. That’s how it started. I used to send out my tracks to all my favorite DJs and producers, asking for feedbacks etc. That’s how Ferry Corsten discovered me and signed me to his label Flashover Recordings when I was 17.

Who would you say are your musical inspirations?

Oh, too many to mention! I’m very much “all over the place” musically. It’s hard to name them all. I’m inspired by many different people… but I discovered a whole new musical sensitivity thanks to one guy – Burial. He changed my life.

You love the whole sci-fi comic book world. Lets pick a few of the artists on your Remixtape and see how creative you are. What superhero would the following be

Jay Z

Beyonce

Rihanna

Kanye West

Major Lazer

and what would you be?

I’d say Jay-Z would be Nick Fury. He’s not really a superhero, but he’s the main boss, working with them from the distance. Beyoncé is definitely Wonder Woman. Rihanna? Hmm… Rihanna is more like Harley Quinn. She’s a rebel. Kanye West claims he’s a god, so I guess he could be Thor. Major Lazer as a character is a superhero on its own, he’s got his own cartoon! I’d say I would be Spider-Man (hence I’ve released a couple of tracks as Paul Spidey) or Green Lantern, but I’m afraid I’m not athletic enough for that, so.. maybe Professor X? Ha!

What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend?

– Eric Prydz “Opus”

Probably the best track I’ve heard this year.

– DJ Snake & Mercer vs. Ace Hood “Bugatti Lunatic (P.A.F.F. Mashup)”

Damage on the dancefloor guaranteed.

– Backstreet Boys “Everybody (Apashe x Oski x Lennon Bootleg)”

Because who doesn’t wanna hear THIS classic in a trap + house version?

– Drake “Back to Back (Fawks Flip)”

Team Drizzy all the way!

– Bunji Garlin “Exodus (Major Lazer x P.A.F.F. Remix)”

That fast soca part is my favorite!

Have you shot your neighbours cat yet?

Haha, that’s a good one! How could I shoot my inspiration? Come on! But seriously, I’m gonna reveal the big secret now. There is no cat. I took it from Pablo Francisco’s stand-up segment about heavy metal bands. I’m sorry.

One of your interests in time travel if you could zip back to any time when would it be and why?

I’d love to hang out with The Beatles during the “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” studio sessions, to see how all this awesomeness came to life. I know there was a lot of illegal substances involved – I’m not into that, but still I’d love to witness the process of making this album.

The biggest tune of 2015 so far?

Like I said before – Eric Prydz “Opus” definitely.

Not many people know this, but P.A.F.F is really good at?

I’m pretty good at doing graphics. I make all of my logos, artworks, flyers and covers. I’m also a decent rapper, but I spit flames mostly in Polish though and only for my close friends. Oh, and I make cool Snapchat videos. Add me: paffiozo

Some club dates you are looking forward to this summer?

I don’t have many club dates this summer to be honest. I’ve decided to take a break and be more focused on the studio work this time, creating those fresh bangers for you to dance to soon!

And finally what is coming next from you studio wise?

New remixes with Major Lazer, I’ve also made a bunch of tracks with Jillionaire and Kalibwoy that should be out sooner or later! I’m also working with Dave Schiemann aka Shimz on some new crazy stuff. Experimenting with many different genres as always. Can’t wait to share it all with you guys!
