Patrick Topping

One of the hottest producers in the world right now. You will never Forget this future superstar

Interview : Dan Prince

Hey up Patrick, welcome back to DMCWORLD – where on the planet are you today?

“I’m actually at home in Newcastle, England. Got a little period at home, before heading off all over. So just trying to make some new music.”

An unbelievable summer for you with the success of ‘Forget’ – the world is bowing down! Did you ever envisage the record would blow up so much?

“Nah not at all mate. Thought it might be my biggest one yet, if I was lucky. Didn’t expect it to then blow up the way it is now though. Ever since Jamie Jones included it in his BPM set, people seem to have been going crazy for it. That lead onto a lot of hype before it was even released, so when that started building, I started thinking, eh this could maybe top Get Beasty, but even then I didn’t expect this.

A big month for you – your first ever South America Tour hitting 4 incredible countries. Where is really getting you excited?

“Yeah August is packed, playing 11 times including this South America tour aye. I’ve never been to South America before and I’ve heard great things about all the countries I’m going to Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia. But there seems to be loads of hype on social media for especially for the Buenos Aires show. I can’t wait.”

Biggest 5 tunes in your box right now

Douglas Greed – Bastard

Bad Kingdom (DJ Koze Remix)- Moderat

Claude VonStroke – Eye I Eye

Patrick Topping – Too Much

Corey Barker- Love Life

A summer of love continues for you in Paradise with your DC10 residency – hey dude, you even had Leonardo de Caprio and his crew down this week! Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but how has the summer been going at madness tower?

“Was he!? Haha wicked I love him. I heard he was at Amnesia, didn’t know about DC10. I did see Orlando Bloom at Paradise though lol. It’s been going wicked at Paradise it’s even bigger than last year, with more people coming and smashing last year’s numbers. I’ve played once so far and it was amazing, can’t wait for my other sets.”

Biggest record in Ibiza for you this year – apart from your own?

Ten Walls – ‘Walking With Elephants’ is huge, heard it a few times.”

Some massive productions we want a few words on please sir…your…

Remix of Yousef’s ‘For The Terraces’

“I was really happy to be asked to do this remix, Yousef is a ledge and the feedback so far has been great.”

Remix of Leon’s ‘Bloosh’

“I only had one day to do this as the deadline clashed with my Australian tour, but luckily it came together and it turned out to be one of my most unique tracks. Love the fact people like Matthias Tanzmann and Green Velvet are playing it.”

Remix of Sidney Charles ‘303 Love Story’

“Out of all my remixes I’ve done, I love playing this one out the most, as it goes off the most.”

New track ‘Baddie’…

Lee Foss included it in the Hot Natured Essential Mix, I think that’s how it’s on people’s radar, but there are no plans for it’s release at the moment. But maybe one day as it’s weird

What were some of your take home memories from your tour in Australia?

“Playing at Revolver in Melbourne was the highlight for sure. It’s actually one of my favorite gigs I’ve done anywhere. The club is cool as fuck and I was allowed to play for 5 hours and the crowd go went with what ever direction I went in.”

Has your lifeguard skills come in handy in Ibiza so far?

“Thankfully no!

Last time we spoke you didn’t discount of one day starting your own label as you had such a big back catalogue of tracks sitting in a vault. How many tracks we talking about?

“It’s actually only about 60, I’ve been guessing lately and saying a lot more than that! I’m sure I’ve been saying like 80 haha, maybe that was including all the ones that have came out etc. Still it’s quite a few.”

True or false? You taught yourself to DJ in a toilet?

“Not exactly a toilet, well in a bathroom, it did have a toilet in it aye haha. It was the only room that wasn’t above the flat below, who were always kicking off about sound and music.”

Rumours abound of some further remixes you are working on at the moment??

“Yeah about to start one for one of my favorite German labels and got one finished that is hopefully going to come out.”

When you are not thrashing about DC10 or Sankeys in Ibiza, where are some of the places you love to chill on the white isle?

I really need to experience more of this other side of Ibiza that everyone goes on about! I know there are so many beautiful beaches and restaurants etc. But so far, I’ve only really been to all the clubs and parties and after parties!

It’s your birthday – who are the 3 DJs you invite to spin?

“Soul Clap, to get the vibe going when the family are there. Then have to be my two favorites Sven Vath and Jamie Jones to smash it!”

A lazy Sunday in Patrick Topping’s back garden. Some of the albums purring out…?

“I like going back to the old Kanye West albums at the moment.

And finally. 2014 what a year. How are you gonna top this canny lad???

“I don’t know haha. Just try to keep putting music out, that I enjoy. I’m starting to play more and more gigs now, so in terms of DJing I hopefully I can top that and play to more people than ever.”
