Exclusive interview with the SupersoniQ Dutch dynamo

Interview by Dan Prince

Mr van den Berg – a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you today?

Hi and thanks for having me back!! I just arrived back home from Tel Aviv, an amazing experience.”

The first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed…?

Well, that’s funny. I was working on my demos to find the demo of the week, man there are so many talented producers out there these days, so I love to hear fresh new tracks first thing…

So congratulations on another piece of dancefloor wizardry, this time in the form of your collaboration with Sandro Silva ‘Aftermath’…please talk us through the sound and history of the track…

Yeah, so after ‘Epic’ there were a lot of tracks based on our first collab and that was very cool to see. That’s when we decided to make the final ‘Aftermath’, a record that fits in my set and works as a successor as well as tribute to that 2011 record.

You made ‘Epic’ 4 years ago together, you obviously work well in the studio together – what is it that makes you two gel so good when producing?

A lot of fun together of course and a good click!

What happens when you have a disagreement about music? Does one of you storm out to cool down!??!!

It’s mostly the idea of the track we talk about. But we won’t stop until we’re both satisfied. We changed the drop like 15 times till the one we were both happy with.

Can you remember where you two first roadtested ‘Aftermath’? Did you know you had just created another MONSTER?

Yeah, that was a big show in Asia and I felt really happy about it. People in front of you are your real life indicator.

The track quickly gained support from a lot of your friends…Hardwell, Martin Garrix and Showtek all quickly gave you the thumbs up. Is there a producer out there though that you always look for to see if they have supported?

I was really happy with all the support, but if I could choose a name it would be Diplo and Skrillex. They play a variety of records through all the bpm and they pick all the highlights and the sets are refreshing.

What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend…

Quintino – Front To The Back. Been playing this record for a long time and it’s buzzing over the internet, so I decided to give it away as a free download. Get it here –> http://bit.ly/QUINTINO-F2TB

Zedd – Botnek Bumblebee. This is an insane drop.

R3hab – Tiger. Good happy vibes with energy.

Quintino – Devotion. That’s my new release coming up. Been playing it for a while and its in all my sets.

Moksi – Brace Yourself. As a big fan of UK garage this one fills my set up perfectly.

1 bucket list adventure you wanna do in your lifetime?

Sky diving. I’ve been wanted to do this for a long time. Free as a bird.

Future studio plans for you and Sandro?

Not yet, but you never know.

A summer festival you just can’t wait for?

Dance Valley Mainstage and Tomorrowland. I love the summer…

An up and coming producer we should be looking out for over the next 12 months?

Moti is one of my best friends, he is already out there right now but he deserves way more credit.

The last great new club you rocked?

Valkyrie in Manila!! If you are in Asia go check it out, such an amazing place.

And finally – what are your plans for Vegas and Ibiza this summer?

Traveling as much back and forth as possible haha! Playing Privilege, Life In Color. And Drais Las Vegas, not complaining…
