Sakorka

Israel yet again in the house! With a stunning ‘Chrome EP’

Israel has always had a reciprocal relationship with dance music. From Guy Gerber all the way through to Infected Mushroom, it’s delivered a whole host of quality producers over the years, the latest of which is Sakorka, an up-and-comer whose music arrived on our desks recently thanks to the work of a one Alex Rubio and his Cohesive label. The EP in question, the Chrome EP, is a fine example of how to do intelligent and interesting house music. With all this in mind, we decided to put some choice questions to the man in question…

Interview by Ian Fleming

How are things in life for you right now?

Life is going great. I find myself between places right now, which is very exciting. Can’t complain!

Where are you based, how long have you been living out there, and what would you say are the best and worst things about living in the city right now?

I have recently moved from NY to Tel Aviv and am planning to move to Amsterdam very shortly. All places have pluses and minuses but I try to find the best in each of them. At risk of sounding cliché (and no – I haven’t been paid a lot of money to say this) I think my city, Tel Aviv, is the best of them. It is just a perfect mix between New York and Amsterdam.

Where would you say has been your favourite place to play so far, and what makes it stand out from the others?

There have been many places but if I have to choose one, since I’ve been doing my down tempo project, the best place would be the Sisyphus in Berlin. The crowd is amazing, people come to have fun. I find a good vibe in a crowd to be one of the most important things.

How would you say your music has changed with the years?

I started playing and producing trance music 15 years ago so I guess it has been a pretty big change… I keep changing everyday.

What influenced this change more than anything else?

I think I started to get bored and I felt the need to change really.

How has hooking up with Alex Rubio and Cohesive impacted your career recently?

I’m very happy that I can work with Alex and Cohesive. I really like this label, the way he sees music, with a very open and creative mind .I feel that this latest release has had a lot of positive impact

How would you describe the music you make to someone who’s yet to hear it?

It very hard for me to describe my music. Every release has a different color; you have to listen to it.

How long have you been producing? Who influenced you to start?

I have been producing electronic music for more than 14 years. I still remember the first time I went to my friend’s house and he introduced me to my first experience in a studio. I was fascinated.

How do you stay motivated musically? What’s influencing you a lot these days?

Listening to a lot of different music

You have a release just about to come out on Cohesive. How happy were you with the end product and can you describe your thinking behind the tracks?

I’m very excited about this release. I hope people will like it, especially because I have put a lot of effort on it. I made these songs in different periods and places, so this release is very interesting as a whole.

What do you think the best thing is about the modern day house music scene? And the worst?

Wow there is a lot of good things. I really like that today, thanks to the Internet, there is a lot more exposure and this helps to discover new good artists. In my nature I’m an optimistic so I can’t see the bad things on it.

What are your hopes for the rest of the summer? Is 2015 a big year for you musically?

This summer I will be in Amsterdam. This place inspires me to produce music so I think I will be focused on that. I can’t complaint, 2015 is treating me right and I have nice releases to come. So far I’m loving it!
