Sick Individuals

Exclusive interview with two of the most exciting producers on the EDM planet

Interview : Dan Prince

The Sick Individuals are one of the most promising names in the modern EDM world. With numerous Beatport-topping singles to their credit, full support from the biggest names in the industry, and a tour schedule of some of the world’s most alluring festivals, it’s clear that these guys have sharpened their craft to an insane degree. ‘Wasting Moonlight’ sees the duo tackling an anthemic progressive house banger, with intricate melodies and soaring vocals. Gorgeous but with a razor-sharp undercurrent – this track has it all…

Jim, Ray welcome back to DMCWORLD. Well you have done it again, set the dancefloor alarm bells off around the planet thanks to your music! This time around it’s  ‘Wasting Moonlight’ coming out on July 14th on Armada that has done the trick. Talk us through the history and sound of the track…

“Hey Dan. Well we were tired of all the hard drops and were looking for new inspiration, a new sound. The track is progressive house but in a new ‘Sick’ jacket! Vocal is bit dreamy and mysterious, the open chords fit perfectly and creates a very positive sound. This is the sound you will hear more from us this year.”

Holland are playing very well in the World Cup – three wins from three. Have they a chance of winning the trophy?

“You bet! We hope we play well against Germany and we win on penalties!”

Ultra down in South Korea looked off the wall – what were some of the take home memories from that show?

“This was definitely a milestone so far, the Ultra main stage for the first time! We did Ultra Miami as well this year but not the main stage. In South Korea we have a strong fan base and this was one of our best shows! The stadium went nuts!”

A recent quote from you…” The reason why our productions are versatile is because we don’t like doing things twice, or doing the same things over and over.” In your opinion, is this a fault too many producers are guilty of in 2014?

“Yes that’s true, but there are still producers that strive for something new. Not that many though. For us it’s natural process otherwise we get bored doing the same thing over and over again. People should be more experimental and re-discover themsleves!”

Is there any truth in the rumour that you don’t drink whilst on tour?

“Partly true, we drink after our shows. We do like to party!! But every day on the road you have to find a good balance in drinking and staying sober.

Especially during off days when we are working in the studio when you don’t want to be hungover. But every show is a SICK night, you never know what happens!”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning…

“Frank Sinatra – Fly Me To The Moon’.

Michael Jackson!!

…you wish you would have made?

SHM – Don’t You Worry Child.”

What is your view on the EDM scene in the States at the moment. Many people are saying it fragmenting in different directions?

“That is correct, but it’s a good thing diversity! The main EDM sound was, and is, a hype and opened a lot of doors for other genres; tech house, deep house, techno etc. It keeps developing the scene, we are happy with it!”

Have you ever been starstruck?

“Perhaps the first time when we started working with Axwell. But he is a very laid-back and nice guy, so we were not that long starstruck!!”

Away from dance music, who are some of the artists you are listening to right now?

“Coldplay, London Grammar, Lana del Rey…”

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

“Afrojack – Do Or Die (SICK INDIVIDUALS REMIX) on July 7th.

SICK INDIVIDUALS – Wasting Moonlight on July 14th.

Two more records on Revealed in August/October. And perhaps another big remix!”
