No holding back this phenomenal Las Vegas producer
Nick, welcome to the DMCWORLD. Massive tune ‘Don’t Hold Back’ smashing up dancfloors at the moment which we’ll come to later. You hail from Las Vegas, the party capital of the world right now. How long have you lived there and what do you make of these past few years with every DJ in the world flying in every week?
"I lived there once in to 2000 then moved away and I have lived here again for almost 5 years now. I think Vegas has finally come around to house music and big DJs, but its still very commercial."
You once said of Oakenfold that he was/is an inspiration to you as…“everybody has heard his name and he's the pioneer of the whole trance thing. All the big guys are my inspiration.” What other major DJs have you looked up to on the way up?
"Honestly? Just Oakenfold...I dont like to look at people for inspiration cause that can turn in to envy which is not good. I like to let experiences guide me on my way.""
Great answer. Before producing you did a lot of work for commercials and films…what’s the story there?
"I just met this guy at my pool after moving to LA and he was like what do u do? I told him I did music...so he asked to hear it and so I showed him my stuff. Funny thing was he was the chief engineer at this company that did custom made music for TV and films. I ended up doing like 200 hundred commercials for them, and became thier top guy."
What are the current top 10 you are spinning…
"That's tough. It really depends on where I'm playing. I'm not one of those DJs that forces a sound down peoples throats, I adapt and format accordingly. I would say my biggest record is my mash up of 'Love Comes Again' the Hardwell remix alongwith Dada Life 'Happy Violence', the Swanky Tunes Remix."
So the next monster track after Keep It Coming is a ground shaking take on ‘Galvanized’ by The Chems, tell us about the tune…
"Dmitry and I were looking for ideas and just going through old samples and found that Moroccan sample and decided to use that. We later realized it was the sample they used in 'Galvanize', I actually had never heard that song before making this record believe it or not."
What other producers are you giving props to at the moment?
"I like Swanky Tunes. A lot is coming out of Russia now which I like."
What is the best and worst thing about living in Las Vegas?
"The best thing is it's cheap and the airport is close. Worst thing is if you don't party all the time, there's not much to do."
What is your biggest Vegas rock n’ roll story?
"Come on Dan, you want to get me in trouble? Let's just say I've had nights out you would only see in a movie..."
What is the best club in Vegas right now?
"I would have to Say XS. They play house music and book the cool guy's."
What did you want to be when you grew up?
"I wanted to be in the music industry since I was a kid."
What did your family think of your choice of profession?
"Well it's like anyone's family. Being a DJ is not what you think until you actually get them to see me at a show. So now they are very supportive."
You had a cracking 2011 – what clubs and countries stand out for you looking back?
"Singapore was really cool. I would like to spend some time there. I also love Chicago - that's my favorite place to play."
What is the finest record you have ever played to a dancefloor?
'Pressure'. My records are always the finest to play for the gratification of knowing it's mine."
What are your DJing plans for WMC/Ultra month in Miami…?
"I already have three gigs booked, so should be a fun one this year."
Which one of your own creations are you most proudest of?
"I would have to say the Nadia Stuff. It's been a pleasure for me to work with her and have such great success."
Not many people know this, but Nick Terranova is really good at...
"Rollerblading. lol."
What was your first break into the music industry?
"Gerhard Joost - the guy I met at my pool that day."
What have you got in store for us for the rest of 2012 studio wise?
"Man lots of stuff, but I'm working on a project now that I think will make everyone think twice about who I am..."
