Mambo Brothers

The coolest dudes in Ibiza get ready for another stupendous Cafe Mambo summer

Interview by Dan Prince

Alan, Christian welcome to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you right now?

“We are in Ibiza, for once!! In the next few weeks you can catch us on tour across North America, Europe and Dubai.  On the 27th of February we are heading to Wildflowers in Toronto, then on the 13th of March we will play at Le Meridien for the HTC Fashion Check In VIENNA.  On March 14th, we are going to party in Lugano at WKND – the 19th of March, we will be at Provocateur in Dubai, 20th of March at CDLC in Barcelona and on the 21st of March at Villa in Belfast!   Moving towards the end of March – one we are really excited about – we are heading to Kuala Lumpur for the F1 weekend at M8. We are really looking forward to heading to DJ at that end of the world!”

Cool! Well an exciting year lies ahead for you…we hear on the grapevine that you will be hitting the studio hard in 2015? What can you tell us…

“Yes we are trying to spend as much time as possible there – hoping to release a few tracks for summer period.|”

You have spent the winter months touring the world DJing, Mexico and BPM looked way cool…what were the highlights from that week?

“We loved BPM and our holiday in Tulum. Guy Gerber’s Rumors party at the Cenote was really cool – super nice beach vibe, beautiful people – just what we would expect from Guy! We also had a great time at Pete Tong’s All Gone BPM with MK and Oliver Dollar at the Blue Parrot – and last but not least – Jamie Jones’ party at the Blue Venado – super cool venue!!”

Did your dad behave himself over there???!!

“Hahaha…Dan, you know hat goes on in Mexico stays in Mexico!! Just kidding – we think he enjoyed it at least as much as w did – and he definitely has more stamina to stay up late than we do!! Always one for the road…”

Where is the strangest place around the world you have bumped into someone you knew from Ibiza…?

“On the Inca trail in Perú. We couldn’t belive it, what a random place to find someone you know from Ibiza…”

You toured Australia again in January, looks like you drank your body weight in wine over the lads…Kaz James is good to hand with huh?

“Kaz James is great – he showed us an amazing time in Australia, – all the cool venues, new places…very dangerous!! We also played with him on NYD, what a good party it was at Riva…”

Friday May 15th is the day when summer officially starts for many islanders with the Opening Party of Mambo. Has there been any changes to the place over the winter?

“No major changes, we are planning loads of great things for 2015 to be even greater than last year. This is a very exciting time of year for us, planning and organizing new things…and thinking of ways to keep all our friends and clients entertained and happy.”

One of the highlights of the summer for many is the annual charity event Mambo In The Mix evening where superstar DJs work the bar raising money for various causes…to date you have raised over €90,000 Euros over the last 3 years!! What has been your favourite or funniest story concerning one of your new DJ barmen over the years??

“So many great memories from Mambo In the Mix…on the first event having Carl Cox coming, he was the first ever DJ to come and bar tend behind the bar, also watching Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones making hot dogs. They owned it!”

What are the big 5 tunes in your box this weekend…

1.    Always You (original) – Bontan & Sonny Fodera

2.    Trommer of Bass – Andne Bratlen

3.    House Records (original)- Steve Lawler

4.    Paapaa (original)- Ninetoes

5.    I Repeat – Kydus.

Your love of extreme sports is legendary from cliff diving with Steve Aoki to cave diving in the Pacific. Has there ever been a moment when you thought to yourselves…”oh shit this is getting scary now?”

“We went diving in a cenote in Mexico called Angelita. At 29m, it has a cloudy layer where the saltwater and fresh water mix. It looks a bit like a scene from a horror film, with all these branches growing. It was cool – but the most dangerous one was Rolling a silver Porsche 911 at 240km/h and coming out of it! That was extreme!!”

If you have a night off in Ibiza, what club and DJ do you head to?

“We like to check out most of the clubs – it really depends on the night and who is DJing – we love to hear some of the DJs like Carl Cox, UNER, Nic Fanciulli, Dennis Ferrer, Jamie Jones, Martinez Brothers…because they are true masters of what they do for us. Inspiring!”

There are some new restaurants and bars getting set to launch in Ibiza this year…is there anywhere new that you are especially looking forward to checking out?

“The new venture with Cirque du Soleil and Ferra Adrian – Heart. Sounds pretty exciting, we love going to many of the most rustics places too.”

And finally…for the thousands of people reading this, some of who have never been to Café Mambo…tell us in one sentence why your place JUST HAS TO BE on of the places they have to check out on their Ibiza holiday experience…

“Only at Café Mambo is there that moment when the sun sets behind the sea and the DJ drops the first beats of the night while you are sipping on a strawberry daiquiri! It’s that moment where you go “Let’s do this! The night is just beginning”. It puts you in a real party mood…”
