Trainspotting with Kid Enigma

Big tunes form the big hitters…

01. DJ Bang – He is – Blue Cucaracha
One of my favourite bootlegs, courtesy of Mr. Derrick “Maestro” Carter. I can not stop playing this Blucu release, and its a vinyl only gem I found while at Amoeba Records in San Francisco.

02. Kenny Dope, Raheem DeVaugn – MJ – Dope Wax
When I heard “MJ” for the first time, I got goosebumps. This sounds like what I want to hear. Great writing with amazing composition, not to mention that Raheem is a beast on the vocals. I wish I had a verse on it. Amazing work.

03. Kid Enigma – Shoelaces – I’m A House Gangster
This is the first song I’ve ever performed live, and I will continue to do so. This reminds me of the MC battles I used to be in back in high school mixed with the dance sessions we used to have every Monday at Boom Boom Room in Chicago.

04. Chicago Skyway – Acid – Uzuri Recordings
When I first heard this track, it was a few years back, and I was not ready for it. I didn’t like it at all. As time went by and my taste for music changed, I heard this at a local event in Chicago. I fell in love with the raw sound of 3 synths and a 909 drum machine. Fabulous work.

05. Jimmy Edgar – Strike – Ultramajic
Strike is a track that never fails. It goes into almost any track in any library whose BPM isn’t to far off. Drums, a little SFX and a simple vocal stab makes for great recipe here. It is not leaving my selection for a while.

06. DJ Sneak – Show Me The Way – Henry Street
This hasn’t left my immediate playlist since I heard it for the first time in NYC. I was living in Brooklyn at the time, and I was chilling at Sullivan Room. The kick dropped, the bass came in, and the strings rose up from nowhere. It was magical. I like to repeat that moment when I play out.

07. Paco Wegmann – Jam-O-Matic – Keep it Zen
I’ve heard this sample so many times. I’ve heard it at so many parties. The way Paco Wegmann delivers the organ stab, though? Bananas. The bass line is too raw for a small venue. Play loud and enjoy.

08. Kid Enigma – On The Ropes (Derrick Carter Club Edit) – Great Lakes Audio
There are simple changes in life you can make for yourself that can make a huge difference on how you feel. Everyday exercise and diet are good examples. Derrick adds simple garnishments to the original mix, and BOOM. It gives the track a whole different energy. His remix of my track is a blessing, a lesson, and a tribute to those who have influenced me. Thank You, D.C.

09. Ed Nine – Trapped – Groove Access
This is a nasty beat right here. Just beat the crap out of this when you use it. I wish I was in the room when he made it. I have like 9 hooks for it. Great work from one of my good friends. South side…. Chi town. Lets go.

10. Cajmere – Percolator – Cajual
I had to. Its the reason I love house so much. Just when you thought you had it figured out, Caj uses random noises and makes a CLASSIC. The first time I heard this was when my brother used to DJ. I was 4 or 5 years old. I went nuts. I heard it again when I got older, and I did my research. Mike at Gramophone Records helped me out, and he actually giggled because I didn’t know it. Now I do, and I will pass it down.

Kid Enigma ‘The Blessing Of Ipseity’ will be released on 20th October 2014 on I’m A House Gangster.
