Trainspotting with Zach Witness

Big tunes from the big hitters…

22 years old Dallas resident and Witnessara practitioner, Zach Witness already has 10 years of music, production, turntablism and DJing under his belt. Accomplished in producing everything from hip hop to dubstep to electro, breaks, house and wonky electronica, his recent reworking of Erykah Badu’s (his second mother) ‘Bag Lady’ gained him reviews, plays and plaudits from some of the cooolest players on the scene. Yet to cut his international teeth, his star is very much in the ascendant.

1. Towkio ft. Chance The Rapper, Eryn Allen Kane & Lido – Heaven Only Knows
Chance has been doing his thing for a while. This song takes it all the way there. Also produced by one of favourite producers and fellow soul brother, Lido.

2. Post Malone – White Iverson
Post seemed to blow up out of no where. This song seriously gets addicting. Also something most people don’t know is he has a past singing folk music, which makes a lot of sense listening to his vocals.

3. T-Pain – Buy U A Drink (AWE Remix)
A staple in my sets, AWE absolutely nailed the 80’s vibe on this. Amazing use of Prophet synths and Alesis drums as well.

4. Hiatus Kaiyote – By Fire
This is one of those songs that gives you so many tingles you think you might have a seizure. There’s so many moments in it where you left asking yourself “wtf was that?!”

5. Scooter Island – Notyours
Everything from the vocal to the percussion to the native american samples on this song are so good. This dude is on the come up foreal!

6. Leon Bridges – Smooth Sailing
If 60’s soul is to ever fully come back, it’s through Leon. He’s got it.

7. Roger Sellers – Spectrolite
If you combined Phillip Glass and Woodkid, you’d get Roger Sellers. This song feels like climbing to the highest point on earth.

8. Chromat!k – Sad God
It’s like Kid Cudi and Childish Gambino mixed with Sun Ra and Linkin Park. Watch this kid!

9. Seven Davis Jr. & Julio Bashmore – Good Vibes
Seven Davis Jr. is like the D’Angelo of house music. He just has this natural bone-deep groove to his music. It’s good to see he’s finally starting to bubble to the surface and get the recognition he deserves.

10. Hudson Mohawke – Forever 1
Reminiscent of a classic Patti Label song, this jam is for the divine lovers.
