W&W v Headhunterz

World exclusive interview with 3 dance music legends

Interview : Dan Prince

A tune this big is aimed squarely at the main stage, and it’s turned heads everywhere it’s played. W&W & Headhunterz…’Shocker’. Does it get any better than this? Oh shit it does, ‘We Control The Sound’ up and ready at Armada towers…

Guys welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you today?

W&W: “Right now we’re working in our studio, we did a lot of shows last summer, so it’s good to be back in the studio working on new music!”

Headhunterz: “At the moment I am in Holland working on new music.”

It was premiered at EDC in Las Vegas and has blasted it’s
way through all the summer’s finest festivals…and now it’s
here! W&W v Headhunterz ‘Shocker’…as much of a crossover
tune as you possibly have. Please talk us through the history and
sound of this massive track…

Headhunterz: “The name says it all I guess. We knew some people were going to be struck by the lines that were crossed in this production. W&W and I have been great fans of each other’s work and when we started running in to each other at gigs we knew it was time get together and combine our styles. ‘Shocker’ is the prelude for what is yet to come. ‘We Control The Sound’, our second track together is on it’s way to be released which, if you ask me, takes our collaboration another step further.”

W&W : “We think Headhunterz is great, he has a totally different style. That’s also what made it so special to work with him.
the result came out great and we’re very happy that we have the opportunity to work with all kinds of different artists and different genres.
the style is a blend of a new W&W sound and Headhunterz’ hardstyle sound.”

Tell us about the production process, was it a flurry of
trans-Atlantic computer communications oror did you actually manage to get
into the studio together?

W&W: “Ha! Yes we did actually spend some time in the studio with Headhunterz, a great experience and we’re definitely looking forward to seeing him again.”

Headhunterz: “We spent quite some time in the studio together. More on WCTS than on ‘Shocker’. I have been more involved with making WCTS.”

Some big tunes in your box this weekend…

Headhunterz: “You know me Dan, I like to keep this secret as my box is full of ID’s and mashups that I have made myself.”

Who’s initial idea was the collaboration?

W&W: “The idea actually came from both sides, we like each others’ style and we just had to come up with something together.
Now finally the result is here!”

What were your 3 festival highlights of the summer and why…

Headhunterz: “Coachella, need I say more? EDC Las Vegas, a magical moment on a stage that couldn’t get any fuller. I’ve done quite a lot of festivals I’m having difficulties coming up with names. One that comes up is WISH Outdoor, the only festival I played in Holland this year so undeniably a feeling of coming home.”

What is the number one thing you love about the production style of
your collaborator on ‘Shocker’…

W&W: “We love how you can really hear the W&W sound and the Headhunterz’ style blending together, we think it’s a great fit.”

It’s the DJ 100 Poll coming up in October, We interviewed Arthur Baker this summer who thinks there are simply too many DJs and producers around to make this annual competition authentic. He thinks it should be split into categories. Do you agree and how much effort do you and your team put into the whole raising votes procedure?

Headhunterz: “Almost no effort at the moment. After I had reached 11th place two years ago and had a difficult year afterwards production wise, I did not feel worthy to ask for votes in that next year so I didn’t. At the same time I was coming to the conclusion that I did not want to be competitive in my career. One of the things that has always made me enjoy my musical path to the fullest is not too much looking at what others were doing. I’d like to keep it that way and trust in my own path and that of others.”

Paris Hilton earning $200,000 a set at amnesia – thoughts?

W&W: “Dan, we guess everything is possible.”

Headhunterz: “Non judgement is the way to go. Just focus on your own path. Life is unlimited potential. Paris Hilton and her DJ career is one manifestation of that.”

Your summer 2014 anthem?

Headhunterz: “AlunaGeorge – ‘You Know You Like It’ (Tchami Remix).”

The best new club or festival you checked out this summer?

W&W: “Sun City in El Paso was great!”

Who is an up and coming producer we should be looking out for in 2015…

Headhunterz: “Crystal Lake / Dr Rude.”

And finally…what is coming out next from you studio wise…

W&W: “We’re working on some great new tracks and some great new collaborations, we will definitely surprise you with some amazing new stuff soon…”

Headhunterz: “That’s the question isn’t it? I have some new music ready but first there is ‘We Control The Sound’!”
