The Camp Presents: Botanists Of The Asphalt
Curated by Stephanie Pochet.
This show runs until 26th January

Inspired by the baudelairean figure of the flâneur, this exhibition invites you to experience the city through the eyes of the artists. In Baudelaire prose and poems, the “flâneur” designates a nineteenth century urban bohemian who wanders the city streets aimlessly, collecting impressions of modern life; alienated by the city and yet at one with it.  According to him, the artist is the perfect candidate to fulfil this role of observer and capture the multiple facets of the metropolis. Several artists have undertaken this urban inquisition and explore what attracts, repulses and stirs them about the city. Buildings, faces, stimuli and experience become instruments to their creative process, resulting in a multitude of narratives, which are developed through sculpture, photography, video, installations and illustration. Artists involved are Wayne Chisnall, Ruth Pickard, David Macdiarmid, Kerim Aytak, David London and Aisling Roycroft.

Keeping with The Big Chill’s ethos, the music for each event will traverse the diverse musical spectrum of sound. For the launch we’re proud to welcome one of the true innovators of the electro sound… Ladies and gentlemen 808 claps at the ready for the one, the only EGYPTIAN LOVER!

Described as the HUGH HEFNER OF HIP-HOP Greg James Broussard AKA EGYPTIAN LOVER has spent over 25 years slaying dance floors across the globe with the slickest electro (…and we mean ‘proper electro’). Becoming the main DJ for JAMMS ARMY in 1982 (a group of West Coast DJs and MCs) it was not long until the ‘Lover hit the studio recording early electro classics such as YES, YES, YES and DIAL-A-FREAK. Finding himself a natural talent writing lyrics and beats EGYPTIAN LOVER headed straight back into the studio and recorded EGYPT, EGYPT recorded in thirty minutes and initially meant as an introduction for his own sets, the track exploded and became one of the main themes of the early 80’s electro scene. With a multitude of other productions such as COMPUTER LOVE / AN MY BEAT GOES BOOM, FREAK-A-HOLIC, FILTHY and many more EGYPTIAN LOVER touches down to THE BIG CHILL HOUSE live and direct from LOS ANGELES for one of what looks set to be the most talked about nights of 2010!

Supporting we are also more than happy to welcome ALI RENAULT, one half of Italo outfit HEARTBREAK as well as a hugely established and influential DJ and producer in his own right alongside leading London Italo club COCADISCO DJs and HOW’S MY RAVING? VIP CREW DJs.
