Reveals all about the Gavrilyuk Bross and Hospital Club Records

Interview : Simon Tillotson

In Khabarovsk, the party never sleeps. The Hospital Club opens its doors to some of the biggest DJs each week and behind closed doors, locked away in their lab the Gavrilyuk Bross continue to produce some of the scene’s finest sounds. With their latest release, ‘Don’t Let Go Of My Hand (Part 2)’ showcasing the strength of the humble remix, the Brothers called upon their good friend GarcyNoise to deliver a belly-rumbling mix that’s been setting dancefloors on fire worldwide. Hailing from Barcelona and with more than a few years’ experience fronting the local scene, we caught up with Ruben to find out just how he ended up embroiled in the sounds of The Hospital Club…

Ruben, the new Hospital Club release is huge! What else has been happening with you recently?

“Well, I’m remixing more tracks for other labels and my own label, Justified Cause, I’m producing more original tracks for my project Aiby & The Noise (http://on.fb.me/aibythenoise) and another one called Poor Hoax that will see the light of day soon as an album.”

Back to the release, how did you end up writing the remix for the Gavrilyuk Bross?

“I’ve known the brothers since 2008, I was playing at the Hospital Club all the time and they asked to me to collaborate with them on their brand new label – there wasn’t any doubt from my point of view what to say to that!”

Khabarovsk is a long way from Barcelona – how did your relationship with the Hospital Club begin?

“One friend of mine, DJ Tres Manos, has been playing there for a long time, lucky me, he recommended to the brothers that they brought me there, and I guess the rest is history!”

Your remix of “Don’t Let Go Of My Hand” is heavy! What sound did you have in mind when you started to remix it?

“I wanted to do something with a heavy bassline, something that shakes your stomach near the sound system. I think I managed that!”

Do you prefer remixing or writing original productions?

“Well, making original productions is more laborious, mainly because I’m a perfectionist and I’m never happy enough at the end! To remix though, it’s more fun – you have to use (obligatory) some parts and re-think something that is already done; I love both ways to be honest!”

We know you are a big fan of analogue synths – are you able to incorporate them into your remix work or are they solely for playing live?

“I try to use them for both kinds of work; I do have big studio synths that I can’t use in a live set because they’re too heavy to carry, but for live sets I use those small ones without keyboards. To work at the studio, you really should know the sounds that each synth has and then you can quickly find the sound you need at any time.”

And can we expect to see any more work from you with the Gavrilyuk Bross or the Hospital Club in the future?

“We will see, I would love to for sure, but it’s up to the Gavrilyuk Bross! I think they are happy with my work, so I’d hope yes!”

And how about as GarcyNoise or your label Justified Cause – what have you got planned for them?

“With regards to my label, I have planned the launch of the next three releases until release 030 and they’ll be singles from other artists; then there will be stuff just from GarcyNoise. After that the label will be focusing just on GarcyNoise and a few collabs…watch this space!”
