The face of an angel bringing us pure bliss on the dancefloor

Gina – welcome back to DMCWORLD. A massive new tune which we will come to next, but you are in the middle of an Asian tour at the moment…how is it going, your Eastern fans love you…

“I love touring in Asia, it’s so vastly different from home. The last stop was KuDeTa in Singapore, which is the club at the top of the Marina Bay Sands (the most insane piece of architecture I’ve ever seen), and it was an amazingly fun night. Grey Goose hosted, so safe to say everyone was feeling good! Next stop is Macau, which is supposed to be the Vegas of China, so I’m sure it will be interesting!!”

So the new tune ‘Bliss’ swinging our way on CR2, superstar DJs such as Nicky Romero and Fedde Le Grand all over it. Talk us through the history of the tune…

“Well I first started working on it back in October of 2011, and it was just a 3 minute demo…I found myself drawn to it, so I transformed it into a full club track. Its certainly been thru a few different versions, trying to get the mix just right was not easy due to the layering of pianos and synths, but hopefully we’ve got it now.”

We love you in the UK and it seems you seem to have taken a lot of our culture back to the States with you. However, you said recently you love our PG Tips, Chelsea FC and roundabouts – erm…is that the best we can offer you?!

“Haha! To be honest, the best thing about England (and the main reason I lived there) was the dance music culture. The Brits have grown up with dance music in their blood, certainly not the case for Americans. I learned a lot and worked with some amazing people, some of which I still make regular trips to see.”

Ministry of Sound in London – why the big love for our number one club?

“I love clubs that have a history, and MOS London is certainly one of them. The sound is unbelievable and the layout is cool because there are different rooms that you can roam around depending on your taste in music. Most of all it’s the people that make it special, and this goes back to my comment about dance music culture in England, everyone is just so up for a raging party.”

You taught yourself to DJ by purchasing 7 records and did an open air show in Houston, Texas. Can you remember what they were?

“A slight correction on the facts here, not quite as glamorous!…I did buy 7 records during my first trip to the record shop, and then proceeded to drive my college roommates insane with my non-stop practicing…I then went to an open turntable night at a club in Houston, where I put myself on a list for a time slot. Being my first gig, I was shaking like a leaf, and almost barfed before going on lol. I got a 30 minute set, which was the perfect amount of time to play those 7 records. The only one of the 7 that I can recall is Bel Amour “Bel Amour” released on KLR Records in France…an absolutely perfect disco house track.”

Early DJ heroes?

“When I first started going to raves, I can remember seeing Richard ‘Humpty’ Vission and Bad Boy Bill. I absolutely fell in love with their style of house music and how much energy they put into their sets.  I mean being able to play 50 tracks in an hour – on vinyl… now that is exciting to listen and watch.”

Favourite song of Summer 2012?

“Fav tune so far this Summer is: Mario Larrea feat. Jenifer Levy – Belief (Original Mix) – Rising Music. Fantastic production and I’m over the moon for the vocal.”

Tell us about the big artists and tunes you are listening to on your iPod at the moment?

“I’m super obsessed with Breakbot at the moment, he’s just put out a track called “Programme” which I have listened to about a hundred times already. Also, Justice’s new single “New Lands” is pretty awesome. Both tracks have a distinct 70’s vibe, which due to my love for classic rock, they are quite the treat.”

Is there a producer from around the world you would really love to make some music with?

“I’d love to work with Adam Levine, you don’t often find a pop singer that actually writes his own lyrics – and well.  His high tenor voice really lends itself to dance music… and he seems to be really passionate about and involved with his productions.”

What is coming next from you studio wise in 2012, you always have a bank of records ready to roll…

“I will have a single release every six weeks from now until the end of next year. There are some more instrumentals, as well as tracks featuring some great vocalists like Chris Willis, Marcella Detroit, Jonathan Mendelsohn, Jussie Smollett and Laza Morgan.”

What do you love and hate about living in LA?

“I love the weather, my friends and food, and I hate the traffic, smog, and fake people.”

Who is the coolest person on your mobile phone?

“I actually do have some pretty famous people in my phone, but I’m sure that one of the reasons they remain my friends is because I don’t brag about knowing them…”

What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?

“Ideally I would like to sleep in, eat breakfast on my terrace, then go to the beach to play frisbee and have a picnic sunset dinner, then watch a movie in bed.”

And finally, how close are you to finally jumping out of that plane and skydiving …?

“HA!! I can’t even bring myself to consider bungee jumping!  Roller coasters are about as close as I get to extreme sports.”
