Matt Nash

Eyes wide open for this future legend

Welcome to DMCWORLD towers Matt. We first caught this record about three months ago and knew it was a hit, it’s just been signed by Armada and getting support from the likes of Tiesto, tell us about the ‘Close Your Eyes’ journey…

“Thanks for having me. Well ‘Close Your Eyes’ was the first original track that I was truly happy with. The vocal hook was recorded in the closet of my old bedroom and I built the track around that. I’d been experimenting with the big room, euphoric sound that really created a vibe and felt that I’d captured that in this track.”

So let’s go back a way, how old were you when you caught the dance music bug?

“To be honest, it has only happened recently, I went to ibiza last summer (2011) and that threw me well into my house music addiction haha!”

What was your first break into the music industry?

“I first broke into the industry making pop music, but soon discovered that my calling was in house.”

Who were your early DJ heroes?

“Axwell and Dirty South!! Their collaborations on ‘Open Your Heart’ and ‘Sweet Disposition’ are just too good and will always remain some of my favourite tracks.”

Tell us about the forthcoming releases, some good stuff coming out on Spinnin Records?

“I can’t wait for that to come out, its a collaboration between myself, Dave Silcox and Matthew Leface – it sounds huge and we had a lot of fun making it.”

How would you describe your DJing style?

“I love the big room emotive house, the tracks that create a vibe a room and take it over. I like to take everyone on journey to get completely lost in the music.”

An exciting Summer awaits us all, some big gigs in your diary, a certain date at Creamfields amongst others, looking forward to it all?

“Yes, very much! Cannot wait to do Creamfields – I’ve never even been so to be playing for my first time their is going to be really special.”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

1. John Dahlback – Life
2. Tristan Gartner – Punx
3. Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso – Calling (Lose My Mind) ft Ryan Tedder
4. Dubvision – All By Myself
5. Third Party Vs Ciada – Feel
6. Zed – Starts Come Out (Tim Mason Remix)
7. Jack Back – Wild One Two (feat. David Guetta, Nicky Romero & Sia)
8. Maedon – Icarus
9. Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl – In My Mind (Axwell Mix)
10. Arty, Matisse & Sadko – Trio

You have remixes the likes of David Guetta, LMFAO and Jessie J – what do you think has been your greatest remix to date?

“It’s pretty much always the latest one – it always feels the freshest and the production always sounds better than the last! I just finished a Foster The People Remix that really kicks off, that should be out shortly!”

What one tune out there would you love having a crack at remixing?

“Third Party Vs Ciada – Feel Love, the vocal on this one!”

Where have been some of the best clubs you’ve been rocking recently?

“Vienna was pretty crazy last month and I’ve got Gatecrasher Birmingham coming up this weekend.”

What’s the finest record you have ever played to a dancefloor?

“Aghh that’s a tough one, I don’t think I could pick! But one record that always creates a vibe is m83 ‘Midnight City’ (Eric Prydz Remix).”

Strangest request you have ever had whilst DJing?

“‘Can you play songs off youtube?’. Just ridiculous!”

If you hadn’t have become a producer, what other careers were a possibility?

“It would have to be something, anything in the music industry! But before I found music I was heading for a career in tennis!”

What did your family think of your choice of career?

“I have such a supportive family, I don’t think any of this would be possible without them.”

What would be your dream DJ gig?

“My own tour, with a massive production! I’d really want to make a special show out of it.”

What is your guilty pleasures song?

“Emeli Sande – ‘Heaven’. Cannot get enough of this vocal!”

There’s thousands of aspiring producers and DJs reading this – what advice can you give them to making it in this crazy industry?

“Make track after track after track! It took me 5 years and over 100 tracks before I got to my first release (‘Close Your Eyes’). This really is the only way to do it, get your 10,000 hours in!”
