Shiftee’s Picks Special

Shiftee’s artists to watch out for in 2012 live and direct from New York City

Be on the lookout for these talented folks in 2012…

Archie Pelago
I first was turned onto Archie Pelago after they submitted a stunning and lush remix of Rx – Orbit for our Space Ace EP.  Fantastic fusion of traditional instruments & electronic styles.  Plus their name features absolutely top notch word play.  It makes me want to want to marry a woman whose last name is Pelago, take her name, and then impregnate her with a child to be named Archie.

Cashmere Cat
Wunderkind producer from Norway who can do it all.  Very creative and diverse styles.  His beats are already garnishing interest from big time artists in 2012, so watch out!  If you love cashmere and kitty cats, this producer is for you.

Clicks & Whistles (left)
North Carolina stand up!  These guys kill it every beat.  Forward thinking but with a hip hop/dirty south sensibility.  I’m going to quote myself here and repeat “Clicks & Whistles don’t miss, they’re like the Pleasentville basketball team before they discovered sex.”  Sorry, I can’t do any better than that.

Curl Up
Crazy rave business, this guy goes hard in the motherflipping paint (I refuse to use the F word, since Shiftee for the kids)!  His *as advertised* track “Brain Damage” has been a steady fixture in my sets this year.

Gemmy
Gemmy’s “Too Far” was one of my favorite songs of 2011, and I’m expecting huge tunes from him in 2012. When people cross the line, make sure to play them the aforementioned track – “This… time…you know that you took it too far….”

Koreless (left)
Koreless dropped a sweet and hypnotic set on Boiler Room highlighted by tunes like “4D” and his remix of Jacques Green’s “The Look.”  An artist you can never know to his core because he doesn’t have one.

Krampfhaft
Brilliant Dutch producer whose Makin’ Magic EP was one of my favorites of 2011.  Wide range of styles here too.  I have no clue what the word Krampfhaft means, but I approve!

Lamin Fofana
Outside the box producer from the Dutty Artz & Dubspot fam.  I know him personally, and I must say, aside from music, his sweater game is very impressive.  Watch out for his remix of my tune “Landing Boots” coming out this month on Rad Summer.

MoonDoctoR
Big fan of this guy’s tunes, especially those of the Juke & Footwork variety.  It’s really tough to get a practicing medical license on the moon.  Trust me, I’ve tried.

Mr. Mitch
Experimental, heavy, and quirky with styles upon styles upon styles.  Pretty much all I listen to anymore is the recent 4-hour Butterz take over of Rinse, and I find myself coming back to Mr. Mitch’s set time and time again.  I’m especially pumped for the menacing “The Last Stand” to come out in 2012.

Preditah
2011 was a banner year for Preditah with both the Solitaire & Eightsome EPs dropping.  His new EP “Circles” is set to come out in February, so please hide your kids hide your wife.

Sinjin Hawke
Sinjin Hawke did his thang in 2011 with the highlight being December’s The Light EP.  Mr. Hawke expertly pushes and juxtaposes a myriad of electronic and hip hop styles.  My only caveat is to avoid actually singeing hawks.  Hawks do not like to be singed.  I repeat, hawks do not like to be singed.

Soloman
This guy’s been producing for less than year, and he’s already released a TON of consistently good and heavy dubstep tracks. You know how dogs age faster than humans?  I think Soloman produces in dog years.

Star Eyes
The Brooklyn bass queen nailed it with her White Gloves EP in 2011, and she is already looking to kill 2012 with a slew of stellar releases in the pipeline.  FYI, my preferred use of white gloves is slapping a person in the face, demanding satisfaction, and then challenging him/her to a duel.

Swindle (left)
Maybe my favorite producer in the world right now.  Just a madman all around who can hit you with infectious melodies and vertebrae snapping basslines simultaneously.  I can’t wait for all his 2012 tunes to come out, sheesh!

Zeppy Zep
Zeppy Zep!  How can you not like someone named Zeppy Zep?  The name is just so fun to say.  Zeppy Zep!  Zeppy Zep!  C’mon, you try.  Say it.  I SAID SAY IT!!!!!!  See?  Zeppy Zep!  No extra hype, his remix of Rx’s “Orbit” for our Space Ace EP is crazy dope and original.  Plus, his Tom Encore Spellbound remix was one of my favorite tunes of 2011.  Zeppy Zep!
