JOE DRISCOLL

What’s the best night out you’ve ever had?
I was backstage for Dave Chapelle’s Block Party in Brooklyn. It was a who’s who of all my musical heroes-Fugees, Black Star, Dead Prez, Kanye, Badu, The Roots…. we ended the night dancing to NYC underground legends ‘Brazilian Girl’ in a tiny club. Perfect.

What’s your favourite club?
Cargo, it’s got a diverse vibe. I’ve had tons of great nights there, hip-hop, drum n bass, reggae… it’s got a solid, laid back atmosphere.

What’s your favourite record of all time?
Thats tough… I’d have to go with Beatles ‘White Album’.

What record can’t you stand?
50 Cent ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’….  I just don’t get it at all.

What record did you lose your viginity too?
I didn’t have tunes that night, but D’Angelo Voo-Doo got regular rotation in the early days.

What was the last record you bought?
Mr. Hudson’s ‘Bread & Roses’ EP.

Name three of your biggest influences?
Beatles, De La Soul, Bob Marley.

Who would play you in ‘Joe Driscoll’ the movie?
I would hope Johnny Depp, but the director would probably go with Steve Buscemi.

What’s your dream?
Get a nice house in a warm climate, and be able to make my art in my own time while not stressing about money.

How do you escape?
Music and nature. In London, nature’s harder to come by, so its been mostly music lately.

What is your favourite possession?
My Mbira, an african thumb piano… it’s got the freshest tone.

What is your life philosophy?
Don’t try to force things, take er easy. The dude abides.

What’s in your pockets?
Keys, CD’s gettin scratched, and too much change. The Brits need the one pound note now!

If you were an animal, what animal and why?
Definetly a monkey. My last album was called Life As A Monkey. I’ve always felt like monkeys were cooler than people… more hair, more laughs, less stress.

You are having a party, whom dead or alive is on the guest list?
Bob Marley, Mark Twain, Muhammad Ali, Hunter S. Thompson,  Fela Kuti, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, MF Doom.

When was the last time you embarrassed yourself?
It’s a daily occurence man.

Tell us something we don’t know about Joe Driscoll?
I thought I was a member of Wu-Tang when I was 16.
