Set One Twenty

London get ready! The Leeds massive are on their way…

Tell us about your ethos surrounding Set One Twenty and how your events have been in Leeds…

The ethos over the years was not to pigeonhole ourselves to one certain sub-genre, we’ve got a wide taste of music at Set One Twenty and I feel that it reflects in our bookings.

You have your birthday coming up with Moodyman in Leeds, tell us about that?

After seeing him at Louche, Mint Club whilst at uni – I’ve been trying to book him from the past 5 years! A lot of emails have passed over the years as you can imagine, we’re buzzing to bring such a legend to the club!

And doing your events at the historic Mint Club, that must be a buzz?

Yeah its always a big buzz, Been there week in week out since I was a student and to now be working at the best venue in the city is a pleasure!

You’ve made the move to London, what made you make the move?

It’s something we’ve always flirted with, the majority of my friendship group finished uni, packed their bags and headed straight for the capital! We’ve got such a big network down there – plus its always good to try something new. If we can make a stamp in London it’ll be a big look for the brand.

Tell us about your London line up?

It took us sometime to get together but we handpicked picked our favourite artists from the past year or so. Janeret from arguably our favourite label at the moment ‘Yoyaku’ – Time Passages label Boss Binh and finally the upcoming Gene on Earth whose new releases are sounding class.

There are a lot of promoters out there at the moment trying to cut the mustard. You’ve been able to sustain a solid brand, what advice would you give to people starting an event?

Stick to your gut instinct with regards to bookings – it’s important to go with what music you feel sounds good and what will work for your audience, don’t be afraid to ‘sell your soul’ if it means raising your profile in the scene. And to anyone looking to take this one as a full time career…the promoting industry is a hard game – there are a lot of opinions in this industry don’t listen to any negativity.

Do you have any further summer plans?

Yeah we’ve got a good summer planned in so far, we have our annual all day & night terrace parties at Mint Warehouse on May 6th & May 27th with names Ricardo Villalobos, Raresh, Sonja Moonear to name a few. And we’ll be heading back to 93 Feet East, Shoreditch on June 30th for our summer London party.
