The genius producer from the Ukraine gets busy on Monika Kruse’s Terminal M imprint…techno just got soulful again!

Interview by Dan Prince

A huge welcome to DMCWORLD, where on planet earth are you today?

Hey Dan! I’m in my home country Ukraine.

Your incredible year continues, this time thanks to your brilliant Phuture Lead EP coming out on the mighty Terminal M Records. Please talk us the 3 tracks…

Thank you! I’m very happy to have my second EP on Terminal M. Big thanks to Monika Kruse for that possibility! Actually all these tracks were written in different times. «Phuture Lead» and «Self Embodiment» were written more then 1 year ago and «Singular» just before Monika asked me about demos for her label. By the way the main synth in «Self Embodiment» was written just on a music application on my iPhone, it’s funny but it’s true!

Okay let’s rewind for a moment. What is your earliest memory of music from your childhood?

I remember my father sometimes putting on vinyl discs with musical fairytales before my brother and I were going to sleep. We were just kids and for me that was a really big journey drifting off to the sounds and into dreams haha…

Your youth was filled with playing in a rock band. What was your part in the band and what was your ambition for the band?

I was multi-instrumentalist. I used to like to play on different instruments, like bass guitar, rhythm guitar, synth and drums. But that was not professional, I did it just for fun and for understanding all the instruments we had in our garage studio.

How did electronic music finally make you sense?

I just heard house music on a radio station and in one moment I decided to start learning this kind of music and trying to make my own tracks.

Early producer heroes?

Stephan Bodzin, Oliver Huntemann, John Dahlback, Kaliber, Rekorder, Spektre…

Can you remember the first ‘dance music’ club you ever went to, the feelings you felt?

Yes! That was in my home city. My friends was making techno parties every weekend. This was not a club, it was a small party-bar called SunRise. But the atmosphere in this place was really amazing. It was the only one place where you could hear underground music in my town and some cities around. This was the place I started to play my first DJ sets…

What  is the current Top 10 you are spinning…

1)  Vinicius Honorio – Through The Darkness [Drumcode] – amazing vocal with synth melody

2)  Slam – Vapour [Soma Records] – classic techno sound for me, very good old school stuff

3)  Adam Beyer Vs Pig Dan – We Are E [Drumcode] – very good melody and this oriental voice fits very well

4)  Mark Reeve – Acceso [Truesoul] – I like every track of Mark’s! Incredible producing!

5)  Yan Oxygen – What You Say [Electrovino Records] – Yan is a very talented techno producer from Ukraine and a close friend. This track from him is magic.

6)  Spartaque – In The Beginning [CODEX] – Spartaque is from my country too, another good friend and a very hardworking man. This track is the evidence of this.

7)  Balthazar & JackRock – Real Lies [Phobiq] – these guys are the perfect producers for me. At this moment they are on fire!

8)  Spektre – Celeste (Weska Remix) [Respekt] – absolutely immaculate original track from Spektre guys with sterling remix from Weska! Trouble-free connection

9)  Frankyeffe – Mister [Terminal M] – amazing EP from Frankyeffe! Especially this track.

10)  Raito – Speaker Burner [Boysnoize Records] – I like the stile like this! Old school sound with break beats. Uhhh))

What is the dance music scene like in the Ukraine? Who are the biggest DJs, labels, clubs…?

Generally speaking techno music is not so popular in the Ukrainian dance music scene. But we have some really big international techno artists like Spartaque, Nastia and Woo York. Not so many labels from Ukraine that I know of, but Spartaque has two very good labels IAMT and CODEX. We have some very good clubs in Kiev. It’s called Forsage where are many dancefloors and sometimes we have techno parties on one of them. And another club that I can pay attention to is called Closer where you can listen to techno and tech house music and see many good artists include international.

You have been flying all over the world recently DJing, what have been some of the most amazing gigs?

Highlights include a gig with Alan Fitzpatrick in the Netherlands, my debut gig in the US, my very first gig of my international career in Graz,  another one in Athens, Greece (because the crowd is amazing there) and another one in Dubai, that was really a proper night!

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

My upcoming track called «Phoenix Rose» will be out on Funk’n Deep Records – a digital and vinyl too. That will be one original track from me and three remixes from Spektre, Frankyeffe and Balthazar & JackRock. Don’t miss it my friends!

Some summer DJ dates you cannot wait for?

For me all the dates is important!

Aside from music, how do you chill out?

I like to spend time with my friends and family.

And finally – what do you want to achieve the most from the next 12 months?

I want to make really big EP and try to release it on one of my favorite label «Drumcode»…
