The king of Ibiza 2012 gets ready to go Diynamic again
Welcome back to DMCWORLD young man, exactly 365 days since we last spoke as you embarked on your debut Ibiza residency. You said to me…”In my mind, Ibiza will see some big changes this year – and I think we will be part of the changes.” So looking back now, when did you realize that you were going to be THE hit of the summer?
“Thanks you for the young man (haha) and for the flower for sure. But I think I was not the only hit of the summer. I am a fish in a big ocean and I love to be surrounded by other fishes.”
One of the lovely things you did was make sure every bar on the island had one of your CDs before the season started resulting in all of the workers on the island already loving your music. What was the highlight of 2012 for you?
“To be honest, for me the highlight was to have a real summer experience for the first time in a very long time. You know, I come from Hamburg and it is a very nice city…but we only have ten days of sun all year round hahaha!”
When the close of the season arrived, many expected you to take your awards and new ‘Ibiza reputation’ and head off to a bigger club – why in the end did you stay true to Sankeys?
“We always tried to find a way to stay at Sankeys for a second year even though we wer inundated with all the other offers. It is no secret that Diynamic was one of the reasons for Sankeys’ success last year and we are more than happy to bring our Neon Nights Parties to the next level at Sankeys this year. Other than that I will have my own night every Sunday at Pacha; Solomun +1 is the name of the night – and the name says it all. Unlike lots of other parties in Ibiza, it will be just me and my guest hosting the night.”
Have you check out the line ups this summer at Sankeys, interesting to see people like Finnebassen and Claude Von Stroke coming into join the party…
“I am very happy Dan that good people like Claude will have his own night there.”
What was the best and worst thing about your Ibiza Summer?
“Best: The sun.
Worst: No sunblocker.”
You are heading off to Miami this week with a big party at Nikki Beach. What have you got planned for us at the event? Who is on the bill?
“This is gonna be our first Neon night in the States. And for sure almost everybody from our Diynamic family is gonna play there. And to celebrate our Miami expereience we are all going to live together in one villa, enjoying the sun, playing tennis and basketball and having BBQs at the evening. Together with the family – couldn’t be better!”
You are about to hit Brazil for a great looking tour, closing up at the mighty Warung on Saturday. Where have been some of the most stand out DJ shows for you over the winter?
“Warung is temple. Temple is warung. Solomun is Warung. Temple is Solomun…OK this makes no sense (haha). Seriously, one of the best spots in the world is Warung beach club. I fell like home there. And playing there together with my friend and also label mate David August just makes me happy.”
Let’s talk about your labels. What is coming out next release wise…
“This is gonna a big year for diynamic: A David August album in April, a Stimming album in June, a Neon Night compilation, a Solomun EP and lot of other ear candies, watch out!”
What can you tell us about your Diynamic Festival in Amsterdam in May?
“This is the first Diynamic festival ever. And Amsterdam is the perfect place for this. All of our artists will play there on two stages, the first pre-sale tickets were sold out after one week – so it’s gonna be diynamic.”
Where were some of the other clubs and DJs you checked out in Ibiza last Summer, where could we find you on a dancefloor?
“Last year I checked out a lot of other parties, but this year I aim to spend my rare free time on a beach – and not on a dancefloor.”
You’ll be appearing at the IMS in Ibiza in May – how important is this music summit to the industry and also to the island?
“Big question, no idea. I just recognized last year the huge promotion impact, so it must be quite big, but I’m not into the industry enough to comment on it fully just yet.”
Great news for us Brits with you up on stage at the huge South West Four this summer. What are you expecting from that little party?!
“I love to play in an intimate cosy environment with this more private party vibe (haha).”
Your remix of MY Noir and Haze ‘Around’ made No. 36 in the Mixmag Greatest Dance Track Of All Time – what though is your greatest track of all time?
“It was a big honor to appear on that list. My greatest track of all time? Oh my god, I can’t tell. Music is moments, not tracks.”
And finally as the summer approaches on the white isle, last year you said that 2012 was going to be a year of changes in Ibiza. What are you expecting from the island in 2013?
“I think the change is constantly going on and growing and we all can be very excited what the year will bring.”
