Ibiza 2012 Special

What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?

“My favorite memory of this year, just like every other year, is my first night at Pacha. There something magic about that club that just embodies Ibiza.”

Tune of the summer?

“Even though the record had been out for some time, Ibiza’s parties really made it become big:  ‘Noir&Haze – Around (Solomun Vox Remix)’.”

Most overplayed record of the summer?

“‘Calling – Sebastian Ingrosso’. It’s not a bad record, but I’ve had enough!”

Favourite resident DJ on the island?

“Solomun. The breakthrough of 2012!”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

“Because the whole world spends its summer in Ibiza (or dreams about doing so).”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“Ibiza caters to the whole world, therefore some people will want to listen to the unknown DJ in DC10, while others will want to see Guetta play Ushuaia. To me, there’s nothing wronger than seeing these two audiences as rival teams. I try to leave time for both kinds of events, and try to learn from both what will be the biggest trends or fall.”

What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year? And why?

“Dynamic Neon Nights @ Sankeys. Because the whole night is below 118 BPM and, to me, that’s the future ( see my ‘tune of the summer’ choice).”

Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?

Restaurant: Trattoria del Mar
Beach: Blue Marlin

Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?

“Nowadays, for better or for worse, the border between dance and pop music has blurred, especially in the US. Which means that some new events mixing the two genres had to be created. The true club and dance fan, though, looks for something else, and will hardly be seen at such parties.”

What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?

“‘Touch Me – Rui da Silva’.”

Best venue in Ibiza and why?

“Pacha, because the club is awesome, and each night has something magic to offer.”

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?

“I can’t find anything in particular. The whole of Ibiza and its clubs have evolved and improved; the island has become classier and more luxurious.”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?

“Ibiza makes everyone go crazy!”

Breakthrough artist of 2012?

“He’s not a green boy, but I’d pick Calvin Harris. He’s fast becoming the go-to-guy for productions. He’s the new David Guetta.”

If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?

“The late Steve Rubell. 30 years after he created the club scene with NY’s Studio 54, I’d like to know his thoughts on today’s club scene. And I think he’d get a kick out of partying in Ibiza!”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“It was 1998. Everything was new to me and let me tell you, it was love at first sight.  Now many things have changed, venues and places and people, but Ibiza remains magical.”
