The 8th Note

Israel looking for love

Boys welcome to DMCWORLD, smashing into these pages thanks to your fabulous hook up with Nilson ‘Looking For Love’. How did this hook up happen…

“Hello DMCWORLD, thanks for having us here. Nilson found us through our Soundcloud, we had the idea to do a collaboration together and the idea of ‘Looking For Love’ popped out. We had a great time producing it and we’re having a great vibe while doing our collaborations.”

Are there plans to continue recording together?

“Yes at the end of the month we going to release a great remix we did of the singer Cosmo Klien that’s gonna be released on the Tocadisco label Toca45. And next month we have a release on Flamingo Recordings, a track called ‘Transformers’ and also a song with Cosmo Klien that we are in the middle of at the moment. So look forward for that…”

So take us back to your home country, how did this trio of EDM stars come together to make music in the first place?

“We have known each other for something like 10 years. We are good friends and we always have great vibes producing together. We started to do progressive house music and saw that our mixture together was very good, so we decided to all get together and form The 8th Note.”

Describe the sound of The 8th Note, it seems a mixture of all styles…

“We are very opened mind in our heads and we like lots of music styles and genres. We are trying  to make The 8th Note sound a mix between progressive house, electro house with some trancey melodies and techy percussion. That kind of fusion!”

Your diaries seem packed at the moment, which clubs do you love returning to overseas the most?

“We had a great show this weekend on Nirvana Beach in Israel. This place is great and really makes us feel at home. This weekend we are heading off to Brazil to play in the Playground Rave – it’s gonna be massive!”

What producers from around the world are you giving high fives to at the moment?

“We will go with Nicky Romero who is blasting all over, Nari and Milani who are responsible for the very large ‘Atom’ and also Flippers, who have been making great tunes for a while.”

You have had a whirlwind 12 months, ‘First Light’, ‘Together’ and ‘In Your Arms’ all doing serious damage. So tell us about your studio set up…

“We have a very large studio which is 120 square meters divided up into 3 rooms. One room is only for acoustic recordings, one is for vocal recordings and our control room has Roland V-synth, great keyboards, a vocoder Virus  2 RME 800 and 400 sound cards, Phoenix mastering compressor, Neve 8816 summing mixer, UAD2 satellite dual core and UAD1 dynaudio speakers. Behringer speakers for the reference and some more oldie stuff that we use sometimes like micro korg freeb.”

Err right. Okay, well who brings what to the studio, who excels where?

“Aviram brings the melodic hooks most of the time and is also in charge of the arrangements of the tracks. Itay makes it sound banging and is in charge of the drums section and Matan brings the ideas and is always thinking out of the box how to ‘make it big!'”

What is the greatest record you have ever played to a dancefloor…

“Nowadays we are loving to play our new track ‘For the People’ that has a crowd vocal where we recorded 20 of our friends singing along. And when we play it we feel all the energy of our friends and also we hear the crowd sing it as well, so that’s very cool! We are looking forward  to the release of that on Unreleased Digital on the May 7th.”

Tell us about the club scene in your home country – where is rocking at the moment?

“The club scene is rocking here, especially in the main cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa. The best at the moment is The Dog And The Cat, Avalon, Nirvana Beach, Oman 17 and The Block.”

We have featured mainly Progressive artists in the magazine from Israel, is that still the leading sound of emerging DJs, or has the sound changed over the last year?

“What we love about the house and club scene is that there is no time for formulas and its development is very fast! Nowadays the tracks need to sound big and punchy ‘BIG ROOM STYLE’ – we LOVE it!”

What international DJs are treated like ‘gods’ there?

“In Israel no doubt the biggest are Tiesto, David Guetta and Avicii.”

Where can we catch you performing this Summer?

“We are gonna play all over Brazil touring with Playground Raves which will be massive! We are gonna play in one of the biggest raves in Mexico called Atmosphere  and of course around Israel hitting some of the hot clubs and events.”

A massive tune looming with a large amount of labels bringing out your stuff, give us an insight into what we can expect over the coming months…

“We’re gonna have a few more tunes with Nilson during the next 2 months, also our single ‘For The People’ on Unreleased Digital and also one hardcore track Steve Aoki’s label Dim Mak called ‘Napoleon’.”
