Ibiza 2012 Special
What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?
“This year has been crazy. We have got up to all sorts of mischief but our favourite memory has to be the Judgement Sundays Closing party. It was by far the best gig we did out there all summer. Lots of our friends were there and the place had a real magical buzz about it and everyone was so excited about the party.”
Tune of the summer?
“Our tune of the summer has to be our new track with Steve Edwards “Back to the Stars”. It’s the first time we got to road test it properly and the reactions we got from it were insane and we had so many comments on it. We have even done a tough electro club mix which raised even more questions. This is due to be out soon on New State with remixes from D.O.N.S. & Fei Fei.”
Most overplayed record of the summer?
“Dare I say it… Avicii ‘Levels’ was still getting smashed out over there. Top tune by a top producer but there’s only so much DA DA DA.. DADADA DADA DA DA… DA DA DA you can deal with!!”
Favourite resident DJ on the island?
“I’d say it has to be Lee John! Crazy party animal that has become a good friend of ours and it’s always a pleasure to see the guy! A very talented DJ too with lots of unconventional crazy ideas…and antics!!”
Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?
“Ibiza has that whole “thing” about it. I mean come on…where else in the world is there a whole island devoted to music and club culture. It’s something everyone wants a piece of and I think it will always be like that! Nowadays there is something for everyone and even though it’s ever changing, it’s evolving with the times and everyone needs somewhere to party excessively right?”
Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…
“I think this is a good thing. Ibiza has always been a cool place where all the biggest DJs play but music is so diverse nowadays and there are so many genres that have niche followings. So it’s great to see that there are all the big favourite nights still going as well as loads of cool underground nights, boat parties and secret cave raves! It makes Ibiza more accessible and keeps things interesting.”
What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year? And why?
“It’s difficult to say really. There were loads of smaller nights and boat parties such as Driftwood which sold out every time and had some great names. The smaller parties have smashed it!!”
Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?
“It has to be our own restaurant on the beach!! Oli & I had a few BBQs on Cala Gracio purely to enjoy the chill!!. It wasn’t untill later we found out that there was a €3000 fine if you got caught!! But we had some damn good chicken and burgers!!”
Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?
“I think this is a difficult question to answer because in some ways yeah the season is already bulging, but new things are always good and need embracing! I would have a better opinion on this if we were also on the line up – haha.”
What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?
“Bit of an oldskool classic but it has to be Yomanda – ‘Synth & Strings’.”
Best venue in Ibiza and why?
Alex – “Amnesia, this is where all the excitement for me started. Back when I was 13 watching Kevin and Perry. It somewhere I’ve always wanted to go and one day play there!!”
Oli – “Space, the first time I went to ibiza I was only 16 and I saw some amazing DJs there. This will never leave my mind and always be my paramount memory of Ibiza.”
A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?
“It has to be the roads!! The first time I went to ibiza it was a nightmare getting from the airport across to San Antonio. So when the new dual carriage way was built it was a godsend!! And a hell of a lot safer!!”
What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?
“Deffo the Brits!! Do I need to say any more?”
Breakthrough artist of 2012?
” I think Nervo are deffo ones to watch but also Danny Howard!! We play with him a lot and he is rising faster than anyone I have ever known! Top bloke too!”
If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?
“Eyeball Paul!!!”
And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…
“Oli was 16 and went with a load of mates!! They filled the fridge in the hotel with the big glass bottles of San Miguel and all of the glass shelves shattered and so did the bottles of beer!! They also made hammocks in the room with the bed sheet and Oli with his bull arse ripped straight through it!!. The hotel were not happy bunnies!!
I (Alex) went with my old housemate and found myself dressed as a pirate sat on a rock just out to sea shouting at people down a traffic cone drinking a bottle of Jager! I had only been on the island 6 hours…. I’d leave the rest of my trip to your imaginations!!”
