Speaks about his brand new residency at Pacha in Ibiza

Getting ready for the new season is almost like preparing for the start of the football season, there are always rumours about moves and transfer speculation that surround all the major players. This summer the talk was of Pacha Monday night, the SHM were rumoured to be leaving and there were a few names banded about that would be coming in to replace them. Tiësto has since been confirmed as the new Monday night resident and after four years producing massive shows in Privilege. We caught up with Tiësto to find out how he planned to make the transition to Pacha and what he has in store for us in 2012…

Words : Iain Thomson / Essential Ibiza

You are taking up residency in Pacha on Monday nights this summer, what prompted the move?

“Having had four memorable years of doing the huge show at Privilege, I really felt that I wanted to be in a more intimate club setting this year where I’m able to showcase the spirit of Club Life. I’m really excited about the residency kicking off. Pacha has made some great changes to the club.”

It will feel like an intimate gig for you, given the size of some of your stadium gigs, is that something that appeals to you?”

“Definitely, I really enjoy playing those gigs from time to time. They have a very different energy to them and my sets always have a different shape and energy to them.”

Given that you are used to stadium shows, how much of that can you incorporate into your Pacha residency?

“I really want to give my fans the best Club Life experience possible as always, and my visuals are a key part of this. I’m putting the finishing touches to them with my team but from what we’ve finished already I can tell they will look really special in that space. Sadly we won’t be able to include the fireworks!”

Is Pacha a venue you have partied in before and what are your thoughts on it?

“Pacha has and always will be an institution on the Island. It has been there for so long and is a great venue with lots of exiting nights throughout the season. The crowd is always excellent and the club is going to be better than ever this year!”

What are you most looking forward to from your residency?

“Getting closer to the Ibiza audience than I’ve been for a long time! It should be an awesome intimate Club Life experience for everyone who makes it along.”

You have a pretty demanding tour diary, will you be playing every week in Pacha?

“Yes, the first date is May 28 and I’ll be playing every Monday through to September.”

Have you decided on a programme of guests to compliment you throughout the season and if so, can you give us a heads up of who we can expect to see?

“We’re still working on this, so you’ll have to wait and see! There will definitely be some great DJs joining me.”

Ibiza seems to be getting busier year on year, what is it about the island that makes it such a special clubbing destination?

“It has a different aura than other places in the world, the people there are just at a different level of energy and excitement for clubbing and dance music. Coming back every year feels like coming home for me. The place really embodies the Club Life aesthetic!”

When you get a day/ night off in Ibiza, how do you like to spend it?

“I don’t usually have too much time to relax there, but when I do, I like to catch up on some rest, enjoy the beautiful weather, go to great restaurants, perhaps do a little shopping, and definitely try to catch some of my friends DJ on the Island. It’s hard to pass up a night of partying in Ibiza in the summer, there’s just so much to do always!”
