Tigerilla is at Australia’s forefront of new wave of electronic production with mould-smashers like K-Flay and Anderson Paak inspiring him right now alongside heavyweights Moby and Disclosure. But his sound can’t entirely be attributed to them – it’s totally his own and it bends constantly whilst always maintaining a hip-hop swagger, a pop energy and an electronic undercurrent. We catch sixty seconds with th sublimely talented singer songwriter, dance artist and producer as he reveals the video for new single MERRYGO…
Where are you writing these questions?
I assume you mean which city? Hahaha – I am currently in my home town of Adelaide in my little office
What brought you to music and how long have you been doing it?
I was into music from a young age. I used to learn guitar starting all the back at age 6 – so I’d say nearly 20 years! Geez that makes me sound old!
What’s your favourite part about working in the music industry?
Being creative and hopefully helping others to understand the beauty of art.
What do you think of the current state of the music industry?
The music industry has more reach than ever before however this means the markets get heavily saturated. I think the state of the industry is good, I am enjoying seeing genre benders taking their crack at the billboard charts – seeing what used to be classed as ‘Alternative’ making waves around the world. Pop music in its generic form is not as good as what it used to be in my opinion – So you see artists like Lorde, Clavin Harris or perhaps Future really bringing an edge to the top of the food chain.
What have you been up to musically, recently?
This question requires an essay, so I am just going to say LOTS! I am always writing and preparing for the next release. Plenty of remixes and a bunch of new collabs.
What can we expect from you this summer?
Plenty of shows and new music! I just want to bring Tigerilla to the world stage.
