Trainspotting With Auspex

Templum is the new label project from Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Auspex. A mainstay of the local techno scene with his quarterly ALTÆR residency party at Basement and frequent appearances in the vibrant queer underground circuit of Brooklyn, he is also a Berlin regular playing everywhere from Renate to RSO and making repeat appearances at Berghain, including for the legendary Snax parties. Auspex has released on the likes of Soma, Otomo and many more, with this label launch marking the exploration of a new sonic frontier for the NY artist. As he launches the Templum label with the brilliant ‘Absent Guard EP’, DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with Auspex.

Milo Raad – Behind The Eight Ball – Mord

From an altogether stellar EP from Milo Road on the legendary Lord label, this track has all the trademarks of what I look for in a track these days, solid driving percussion, a hypnotic whirl and a sense of escalation and lift-off that really sets a night off.

Yrsen – Alteration Of Life – Soma

Peak-time wormhole energy from a fantastic release on Soma from one of the most exciting producers in the game right now. Distorted textures warp and swirl around the dance floor while a rolling drum sound and low-end keep the dance floor grooving.

Carara – 003 – trau-ma

Another grooving weapon, almost like a galactic war call, driving and sizzling percussion around tribal elements.

Burden – Atlantis – KSR

This track is a great exercise in less is more, it really has a feeling of “cat-and-mouse” to it that I enjoy on a dance floor, but it’s really the sci-fi elements leaking in that make it electric.

Divide & Oisel – AD4 – Semantica

My love for all things cacophonous and dissonant is really triggered by this one, great for when you want things to get really trippy and disorienting.

Playmo – Soars – Mind Games

A great example of a track that evolves over time and uses the whole tool kit to paint a really visceral soundscape, from the urgency created from the glitching alarm sound to the crackling textures that bleed in and out, giving a sense of traveling through space.

Peter Van Hoesen – Variables Edit 1 – Reclaim Your City

Fantastic tunnelling techno track that really opens up with a trippy subterranean cascading melody, beautiful.

BRÅLLE – No Fault Of Yours – Gordo Trax

A great peak-time rocket ride, like travelling through a star field, BRÂLLE nails the marriage of texture and atmospherics every single time.

Amorphic & Tensal – AT4 – The Sleepwalker – Mord

Not just a techno track, but an actually beautifully composed piece of music that’s evocative, stirring and haunting.

DEAS – Resistance – ARTS

A rhythmic workout, this track is an exercise in how the power of a well-tuned drum rack can serve as a dance floor heater or a call-to-arms, whatever the occasion.
