Trainspotting With DJ Arlyss

Emerging from London’s open decks scene, Filipino-British DJ Arlyss has quickly built a reputation for igniting dance floors across the city, and she makes her debut at Making Moves X Rehab LDN’s International Women’s Day event featuring an Exclusive Guest set from Detroit’s Ash Lauryn on Saturday March 8th.

Known for her vinyl sets rooted in the soulful grooves of Detroit and Chicago’s underground sounds, Arlyss flows seamlessly across disco, proto-house, electro, and acid house, balancing uplifting melodies with darker, hypnotic rhythms. With appearances at House of Groove and Wax n’ Wax you can also catch Arlyss on the radio on Voices & Aaja. Her contagious energy, both behind and in-front of the decks, make her the kind of DJ you want to boogie with long after her set is done.

Gwen McCrae – Doin It – Atlantic

In the light of her recent passing, I pay tribute to this iconic woman.

Gin Tonic Orchestra – Nuits Sonores (Ron Trent Remix) – Floors

Ron Trent played this at Giant Steps – the female energy on the dancefloor was electric and contageous. The women were dancing so hard and as one, it was a completely unforgettable moment.

Tom – Watch Me (Ladymonix Fantasy Mix) – Frank Music

Detroit based producer Ladymonix with a deep Remix on this track – 10 x better than the original imo3.

Tom – Watch Me (LADYMONIX Fantasy Mix) – Frank Music by L A D Y M O N I X

Steffi ft Virginia – Yours – Destefster

Incredible female producers with a timeless track.

Boogiefuturo – Give Me Some Emotion – Boogiefuturo

Samples the iconic Evelyn Champagne King’s and one of my favourite hypnotic disco records. Hearing this on a soundsystem with my girlfriends the first time was a special moment.

Dee – Feeling Hm-Pa-Paa-Paaa (Solitaric Vocal Mix) – Mercury

Released in 1996, Spencer Kincy aka Gemini played this track at Deep In The Flowers in Dallas, and it’s a excellent mix I always go back to. He instantly had me digging for this particular record. It’s a happy-go-lucky tune, and makes me think of all the women making waves on the music scene.

Guinny – Don’t Mess – Toy Tonics

Latest release from London’s upcoming talent Guinny who recently signed to Toy Tonics label. Big female F** off vibes and absolutely deserves a spotlight on IWD.

Maya Jane Coles – What They Say – Real Tone Records

Maya was one of the first female DJs I ever saw play back in 2011 in my hometown. The  Junk club was a legendary Southampton venue, and one of the only places where promotors booked  big DJs, and Maya tore the place down with a full house until the early hours.

Madelic – Extrusive Flow – Sensations

Upcoming Toronto producer making her way on the scene in London.

Extrusive flow by Madelic

Minako Yoshida – Town – Alfa Records

An iconic figure in the music industry, Yoshida makes a statement with her 1982 album ‘Monsters in Town’ cementing herself globally not just as a singer but also as a songwriter/composer and producer from Japan.
