Jay Vegas is one of the leaders of the contemporary Disco House school. Through the 90’s under the guises Soundscapers and Nu Graduates alongside James Ryan, Jay appeared on labels such as Subliminal, Ministry of Sound and Cream. Since then, Jay has gone on to release solo productions and remixes for labels such as Toolroom, Fool’s Paradise, Guesthouse Music, Salted Music, Space Disco, and more. Jay has remixed for an array of artists: Todd Terry, Mark Knight, David Penn, DJ Chus, Harry Romero, Gene Farris & Joeski. As well as holding down a busy DJ schedule, Jay has also run his own popular imprint Hot Stuff Records for over decade. As he returns to Fool’s Paradise with his vibrant Disco House cut, ‘Sunshine People’, DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with Jay Vegas.
Jay Vegas – Sunshine People – Fool’s Paradise
My rendition of Brass Construction – Happy People on Mark Knight’s new label Fool’s Paradise. This track has been covered many times before. So I worked hard to give it a fresh update. Contemporary yet timeless. I added some extra brass parts to give it some extra sass.
Sound Support – Nobody Knows – Toy Tonics
I really like the production on this track. It reminds of the old US imports I would pick up in the early 90’s. It has good musicality and danceability.
David Penn, Robert Gaez Ft. Sheila Cuffy – Deep Inside – Urbana
David asked me to do a remix for Urbana’s 20 year anniversary. I chose Deep Inside as it was a track I always used to play and felt I could flip on the remix. I changed the key and added some epic brass chords (inspired by Kano – It’s A War) on the breakdown, to give more tension on the build up. I thought the chords really complimented Sheila’s incredible vocal.
Hatiras – Elevator Music – Spacedisco Records
There’s so many house music releases each week. I think it’s important to have an individual production sound and my bro Hatiras certainly has that. This track has a well thought out theme that he executes well with his own unique style.
Nightmovers – Don’t Go Away (Jay Vegas Remix) – Hot Stuff
It’s been as busy year for me on the remix front. For this mix I’ve gone for funky house groove to give the track some drive with some rest bite on the breakdowns.
Luuk van Dijk, Kolter – Good 4 U – Three Six Zero
I love this. It’s a really good take on Pamela Fernandez – Kickin’ In The Beat. The production is solid. They use 90’s sounds , such as the Yamaha DX’s Solid Bass preset for the bassline. It’s well delivered with a flowing arrangement.
Nicole – Rock The House (Michael Gray Vocal Extended) – High Fashion Music
Michael Gray with the help of Philip West bring Nicole’s ‘Rock The House’ back to life. Philip has helped many producers by extracting vocals and instruments stems from tracks that don’t have the multitracks available.
Basement Jaxx – Fly Life (Hilet Kolet Remix) – Atlantic Jaxx Recordings
Possibly one of the greatest club records ever made!? It has it all, it’s funky, energetic and tense. Most importantly, it’s in your face. I always support the latest remixes of it. But nothing beats the original!
Sgt. Slick – Dance With You – Vicious
Sgt. Slick has made many quality updates for DJs to play in clubland and this one is no exception. He takes Carrie Lucas’ ‘Dance With You’ string line originally made famous by Armand van Helden and strengthens it with Loleatta Holloway’s huge Love Sensation vocal. Originally sampled by Luca Debonaire on his track ‘Wanna Say Yeah.’
Danny Tenaglia – Tonight – Nervous
A brilliant update of the classic Those Guys – Tonite. Again we have the DX bassline, luscious pads and dreamy keys. I love this old US House sound and I’m so glad it’s come full circle.
