Trainspotting With Terry Jones

The hugely loved and widely acclaimed UK soul veteran, Terry Jones, has been DJing to the UK and international Soul community for an incredible 56 years, having his own weekly London residency at the iconic Norfolk Village (and Spreadeagle) in Shoreditch for almost an amazing 23 of those. He continues to play throughout Europe including Soul fusion and Smart Soul, residencies at Brilliant Soul in Frankfurt, Southport Weekender (for 35 years), Suncebeat in Portugal and Croatia, as well as Bolsoul & Bolbeats in Croatia, Elevation in Sweden and so many other gigs in countries such as  Italy, where he ran his own weekender Village Soul Italia in Tuscany for 6 years. Terry also presents his monthly show on Mi-Soul Radio – Access All Eras. During his mammoth 56 year career as a DJ, Terry never took to making music in studio… until now! As he makes his brilliant remix debut on F*CLR with his Village Soul Remix of Dan The Drum & Carmy Love ft Darren Morris, ‘Hurt So Bad’, DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with Soul DJ legend Terry Jones.

Hurt So Bad – Dan The Drum & Carmy Love ft Darren Morris (Terry Jones Village Soul Remix) F*CLR

My first attempt at a remix after 56 years as a deejay in this business! A cover of Little Anthony ‘s 60s classic, updated by good friend Dan The Drum and vocalist Carmy Love for 2025 and featuring Black Science Orchestra wizard Darren Morris. Hopefully my Soul Remix will be successful enough to allow me do some more, it’s never too late.

Vula – Want Ur Love (Ricky Morrison Sure Shot Dub) – BBE

Original version of this song is from my buddy Ronnie Herel’s new R&B compilation album for BBE. This outrageous dub mix by Ricky Morrison is off the Scale.

Soulfreakah & Newtown Soul – Thankful – Quantize Records

I met this young super talented Soulful House artist/producer Soulfreakah properly for the first time at SunceBeat, and was so impressed. Just when you think you don’t need another version of this classic Alicia Myers song, it turns out you do.

Thelma Houston – Cos I Luv You (Patchouli Bros Re-edit) – Sosilly Edits

An outrageous re-edit of one of my favourite Stevie songs covered by Thelma Houston is turned inside out by the Italian Re-Edit Kings. A stunner!

PREMIERE: The Patchouli Brothers – Cos I Love U [Sosilly Edits] by Maslow Unknown

Ten City – Love Music (taken from The Next Generetion Album) – Nervous Records

I gave this album – a Byron Stingily/Emmaculate produced re-invention of Ten City a 5 star review in Blues & Soul Magazine. With a host of remixes coming, I have no intention of changing my mind – every track is a winner, GET IT.

Brian Jackson Josh Milan, J Ivy & Moodyman – Racetrack in France (MAW remix) BBE

This stunning update of Brian’s landmark cut from the legendary days with Genius Gil Scot Heron by one of today’s deejay kings Louie Vega is a can’t miss. Featuring Josh Milan, J Ivy & Moodyman. So much talent on one project is impossible to imagine, but here it is in all its glory.

Cafe 432 Dawn Tallman – You’re Alive (Dirty Gospel remix) – Soundstate Sessions

Ever consistent Cafe 432 aka Arkin Redif / Mr Jones move away from the standard Soulful House material that has proved so successful, to enter the Gospel House arena and get the most out of the incredible Dawn Tallman’s vocal.  Result? SMASH!

Kenny Thomas – Thinking About Your Love 25 – Unforgettable – 777 Records

As I am a Soulboy at heart, let me introduce you to a ballad from the new Kenny Thomas album. Francesca, Kenny’s talented arranger wife has taken his hit reading of Skipworth & Turner’s original monster from back in the day and turned it into the killer Soul Ballad of the year imho.  WOW!

Sound Signals – Autumn Song (Trinidadian Deep Rebel Mix Remix) – Beyond Tomorrow Records

Often dubbed The Deejay’s Deejay, a man who I am privileged to count among my best friends, Edinburgh’s Craig Smith, created imo, the best Deep House instrumental of the past year with this bullet, and it went stratospheric with this limited vinyl only mix.

Dan The Drum & Carmy Love ft Darren Morris – Hurt So Bad – (Original SHLJ Mix) – F*CLR Records.

The original House creation and blue print for my first attempt at the remix featured at the top of these selections is this cracker from a humble guy who doesn’t realise how talented he is.  Mr Spalding aka Dan The Drum press ganged me into going into the studio to remix his original, showering me with compliments and sycophantic adoration.  Fortunately for me it worked, and I will always be eternally grateful to him, Darren Morris and my old buddy, Jo ‘Ramrock’ Wallace.

Dan The Drum x Carmy Love ft. Darren Morris ‘Hurt So Bad’  (Terry Jones ‘Village Soul’ Remix) is out now on F*CLR.
