She’s So Stylus…
Our Girl Rebekah Brings It Back To Our Ears…

“Thinking the summer was definitely at it’s end, the boots and coat have come out – only to find the sun shining again, what is going on? Another reminder the summer’s out was the fact I was due back at college for the beginning of my last year. Luckily for me, I am studying music production which is the most fun you can have whilst being at school – perhaps though having a secret ciggy behind the bike sheds could be a fair contender? Buying a new pad and folder, I set off for my first day to find we had joined forces with the performing artists – mainly guitarists and vocalists, the latter bringing up the male to female ratio up by 50%. Last year it was 16 lads to 2 girls. It puzzles me why! DJ’s to  come through these days have to be producers as well as DJ’s, – the industry nowadays does not take anyone serious unless they are following suit. So come on ladies, lets show the guys we can be as good as producers as they are. After the weird summer due to my operation, I finally snapped out of my non-motivation and got my arse into action and set up my studio once and for all. Not having a clue about wiring up my new desk and drum machine, I called upon my lovely friend Patric who informed me I was having a blonde moment and to think about things, err logically. Within an hour we nailed the set up and oh boy what fun it is to work with Midi, the only problem being I now spend hours tuning a hi-hat but fun non the less. Gig wise I have started playing out again, firstly last Friday at Bunka, a local Birmingham techno, minimal, tech house night in one of the cooler pubs in Birmingham’s answer to Shoreditch in Moseley. Please don’t laugh its true (check the pic). Ocean Colour Scene called their debut album Moseley Shoals. It is a melting pot of trendiness, musician’s fashionistas, artists and down right grotbags who add a little bit of naughtiness. The second gig of the weekend was at the Rainbow Warehouse playing alongside Josh Wink. I had met him once before years ago in Budapest where we both played at another warehouse party, ironically. He is such a great guy, probably one of the most down to earth DJ’s out there. His set was awesome, techno fused with acid, gone are his minimal sets and he’s back to doing what he does best – ripping up a 303! Good lad, finishing his set with ‘Higher State of Consciousness’ – the roof nearly came off! The Lost Souls DJs came up and played for the last couple of hours and the after party went on ’till 9am Sunday morning. My monthly residency with them at Public Life is always such fun, it was nice to have them up in Birmingham for a change. With all the excitement from the weekend, I am now off to finish a couple of remixes and spend yet another hour on those hi-hats!”
