A Mountain Of One
Institute Of Joy
10 Worlds / Pias

This is the first album proper from A Mountain Of One, following on from their acclaimed ‘Collected Works’, a collection of the band’s first three EPs. Ambitious is the word for this long player, as it’s a record that takes a whole list of 70s influences but makes something truly individual, whilst somehow avoiding being overproduced. While some of the guitar sequences are very Pink Floyd – no bad thing in my book! – there is the unmistakeable sound of Balearica, mostly found in the warm and fuzzy production and the reassuringly full bodied beats. Colours swirl in ‘Highs Of The Sun’, which alternates between graceful piano and more psychedelic passages, while the hypnotic groove of ‘Ahead Of The Curve’ is beautifully managed. This is best heard loud and in widescreen, an album for the listener to completely loose themselves in. An easy ticket to the Mediterranean.
