It seems odd to think of Aim without Grand Central, but his first album for new venture Atic Records shows the transition to have been pretty seamless. Flight 602 is classic Andy Turner – chilled grooves for sure, but keeping their vitality through their hip hop or jazz inflections. Vocalist Niko makes some wonderful contributions in the title track and the spaced out Northwest, while It’s Later Than You Think is a perfect end-of-night record, lightly folksy. Aim’s unusual blend of Northern England and North American inspiration works its magic once again – this is every bit as good as ‘Hinterland’.
