Annie
Don’t Stop
Totally / Smalltown Supersound

Five years after the wonderful ‘Anniemal’ album, Annie finally shakes herself free of record company politics and follows up with an absolute cracker. This is pop music at its very best, polished in the manner of Girls Aloud but with Annie’s breathy vocals retaining a sense of independence, the feeling that she’s been at the very heart of the lyrical writing rather than singing somebody else’s tunes. ‘My Love Is Better’ is the belter here – try getting it out of your head after two listens! – but in reality all of these pop nuggets are beautifully crafted, occasionally wistful and often uplifting. ‘Marie Cherie’, ‘Take You Home’ and ‘The Breakfast Song’ are also winners, while a bonus CD includes the single that sank without trace, ‘I Know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me’. Indulge yourself in some pure pop happiness.
