Brazil’s first lady returns, and shows every sign of casting off her illustrious musical heritage to stand on her own two feet. Deeper house tracks like the sultry ‘Bring Back The Love’ score double for possessing a meaningful message and a cool vibe, while the uptempo Brazilian tracks like ‘Os Novos Yorkinos’ work well. Elsewhere Gilberto strips back the texture for more intimate song-writing, staying just the right side of Starbucks sound-tracking in the process. An early summer album to bring out the sunshine.
