Biosphere
Microgravity / Patshnik / Insomnia Album Reissues
Beatservice

Beatservice have given three Biosphere albums from the 1990s a clean-up and reissue in digipak format with striking artwork as a complement. They serve as a reminder of Geir Jenssen’s contribution to the ambient style that was so prominent in the mid 1990s, though he seems to have outlived the craze comfortably. The first to be reissued is ‘Microgravity’, originally from 1991 and Jenssen’s first album as Biosphere. Together with the 1994 opus ‘Patashnik’ it marked Biosphere as a leading player in ambient house, sufficiently different from The Orb in a more obvious application of rhythm. ‘Insomnia’ retreats into itself though, and provides a deeply ambient, lunar backdrop that proves the equivalent of a very deep bath. Played together the three albums make a satisfying whole, definitely best when experienced horizontally and a deserved retrospective of one of the major players in 1990s electronic music.
