Ambitious stuff, this, from the Bulgarian group – a kind of symphonic project that brings with it emotive lyrics, sung with great feeling by Roni. The only trouble with their music is that quite often it feels very ‘post-Dummy’ – that is, often paying homage to the Portishead debut with Nellee Hooper-type strings. Occasionally the orchestration gets a bit too dense, and doesn’t always complement the singer – there are some curious oboe lines at times. However when the cinematic textures work best, as in the atmospheric ‘Hold Back’, the music is enchanting.
