Great Stuff

Butch is in fact the German-Turkish producer and DJ Bulent Guler, and he’s made a fine debut album combining elements of house and techno, but also bringing forward the intriguing mix of nationalities. The Germanic nature is there for all to see in the carefully ordered production and cool, sometimes minimal beats, while the introduction of cutting bass lines as ‘The Table’ and ‘Osiris’ progress really beefs them up. ‘Jazzy Belle’, meanwhile, is a smoky number – while ‘Amelie’ and ‘Ein-E’ zip along energetically. Yet there is something of a Mediterannean exotic flavour to this as well, and the feeling that the music can at any moment open up from cool and collected to heat soaked and adrenalin-fuelled. It makes for a powerful mix, and with an extra CD of bonus tracks that have the same quality, is a very desirable package.
