Chaka Khan – What Cha’ Gonna Do For Me: Expanded Edition – (bbr)

Apart from containing the dancefloor classic ‘I Know You, I Live You’ which you may remember from ATFC’s ‘Bad Habit’ back in the year 2000 the album starts with that rare thing a good Beatles cover, in this case, ‘We Can Work It Out’. But not to forget, ’Fate’ either which formed the basis for Stardust, ‘Music Sounds Better with You’ so there’s at least two good reasons to investigate this 1981 reissue. Produced by the excellent Arif Mardin who added the sleeve notes to the original (included), it is also no surprise that story of the recording is examined in full by Christian John Wikane providing further brilliant insights. Chaka Khan’s voice shines through whether singing ballads or soaring R&B proving to be one of the finest vocalists of the era. And this album which featured both rich Jazz and Disco influences is a valuable addition to her catalogue.
