COLDCUT
SOUND MIRRORS
NINJATUNE

It’s been nine years since ‘Let Us Play’, but now Coldcut return – and how. This is an outstanding piece of work even by Jonathan More and Matt Black’s high standards, taking in a huge scope of music but managing to make it all run coherently through the album. ‘Mr Nichols’ and ‘True Skool’ are among the best tracks they’ve produced, the latter producing a soundclash between Roots Manuva’s dancehall vocal and an otherworldly Bollywood backing. With further contributions from Mike Ladd, Jon Spencer and John Matthias, who crops up on the understated ‘Man In A Garage’ single, this is an album that reaffirms Coldcut as masters of their form. Welcome back, guys.
