Etienne Jaumet
Night Music
Versatile

It almost seems a bit unfair on Etienne Jaumet to have Carl Craig’s name plastered all over the CD release – but it seems Craig’s unusually credited role of mix director has put the seal on an extremely fine first album. Like Craig, Jaumet is able to work with structures large and small, so the impressive span of 20-minute opener ‘For Falling Asleep’ is perfectly complemented by the shorter pieces ‘Mental Vortex’ and ‘Entropy’, with each running seamlessly into the other. Jaumet has a real mastery of electronic sound, using the simplest of beats to keep the rhythm going while generating momentum through bass lines and various other bits of chattering synthesizer lines. The result is an assured, cleverly structured album perfectly fulfilling its description as music for the small hours.
