Fink – Horizontalism – (R’Coup’D)

Fink has always had a penchant for dub, expressed mostly through his Sideshow alias on Aus Music – but his own songs often carry echoes of the style too. So it makes good sense to come up with a collection of dub plates drawn from the ‘Hard Believer’ album, and they are every bit as personal as the songs themselves, making for an atmospheric and heat-soaked listen. With some of this music the listener dare not even drop a pin, when the likes of ‘Looking Too Close (So36 Dub)’ bristle with tension, or ’Shakespeare (Nachbarn39)‘and ‘Pilgrim (Moda232’) smoulder in their interpretations. It is great to know this important part of Fink’s work exists alongside the songs, for it acts both as a complement and a new departure point to hear the original album again. Either way, some intimate late night listening is in order!
